Poem Saying Goodbye To A Difficult Friend

This poem is about my friend who self harms, she's done it for a while and I've stood by her through it all and tried to help her. But I've realized now that no matter how much I try I can never make her better. When I talk to her about her problems I end up getting upset and frustrated which doesn't help anyone. I've decided to be her friend and that's all I can do.

I Can't Be

I can hear your heartache
and the truth you hide
you give me all your secrets
but the rest is locked away inside

you don't show emotion
keep it trapped and chained
the only escape is through tears
but when you cry you feel ashamed

I've listened to your worries
taken them all as my own
constantly on my mind
my own troubles over thrown

I thought I would always be there
when times got tough
thought I would stand by you
but now it's got too rough

I've been avoiding my own life
pushed everything aside
but I can't ignore it any longer
I'm so sorry I lied

now I feel a coward
guilty I walked away
you look to the empty space beside you
where you thought I'd always stay

I'm selfish and cruel
but I have to do this right
I have to face you truthfully
tell you I have given up the fight

I have a friend he cuts and it tears me apart to see the cuts but no matter what I say or do he won't stop he says it releases him in some weird way I know people deal with thing differently but cutting doesn't make things better it might help for a couple minutes but then you regret it because it leaves scars that don't go away then people start saying things about him and it hurts me to see him hurt or how people label him (STOP LABLEING PEOPLE) I just want him to know that I will always be there for him no matter what . He is my best friend and that's what friends are here for I LOVE YOU CODY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE THE BEST DON'T LET ANYONE PUT YOU DOWN ;)

I'm sorry because I know it must be hard and that you feel bad. But feeling bad isn't enough. Honestly you should be ashamed of yourself. I cut and I wish soooooo badly that I had a friend to tell my problems to. If your friend cuts I'm sure the last thing they needed was for you to walk out on them! Seriously? You may think you can't help them but trust me. Just sitting there and hugging them is enough. You don't need to forget your problems but all you need to do is be there for your friend. You need to be there and make sure they don't fall of the edge.... I don't know you or your friend but I cut and I can confidently say that if you give up on he/she they'll give up on themselves.......
