Poems about Best Friends

Best Friends means different things to different people. Some insist that you can have only one best friend. Others assert that they have best friends for different aspects of their personalities.

Whatever the precise definition, your best friend is the person who gets you. They understand who you are and what you are saying. The greatest distance cannot separate best friends. You will always feel a kinship with them, and be able to instantly continue the friendship even after not talking for many years.

  1. 1. My Best Friend

    • By Sally J. Thompson
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2020

I wrote this poem in 1975, at 13 years old after I finished a test early.

    You're Always By My Side

    Whenever I am lonely,
    You're always by my side,
And when I call to you for help,
    You never run or hide.

You're with me when I need you.
    I hardly have to say,
"I need you now, I'm lonely."
    You brighten every day.

    When shadows fall so dimly
    And crickets no more hide,
    I'm not afraid to slumber,
For you'll be there by my side.

    You'll be my friend forever,
    Making every day more fun,
And I'm glad that you are with me
    As another day is done.

A friend is a wondrous thing to have,
    An earthly prayer come true,
And daily I give thanks that I
Found such a friend in you.

  3. 2. A Friend

Throughout my life, people have come and gone. Some have stayed for years and became great friends while others have quietly exited. I wrote this poem because there is always one person who stands out in your crowd of friends and becomes a little extra special. I dedicate this poem to them. In our lives, sometimes people don't get enough words of encouragement, and this poem is my way of giving back.

A Friend Who Has Always Been There For You

A friend is someone who will always be there.
A friend is someone who will always care
When you're feeling happy or sad,
    Sometimes even when you're mad.
A friend will lend a shoulder or loan their ear,
Because to a friend, you are very dear.
A friend will be there in all your days.
A friend is someone who doesn't stray.
    In laughs and tears,
A friend shares in your life throughout the years.
When things don't seem like they're going right,
A friend will be there to reassure in the darkest night.
When you feel like you're falling apart,
A friend will come to you and help heal your heart.
A friend is someone who will lend a hand
While you lie in confusion or just don't understand.
A friend shows you the way right from the start.
A friend is someone from whom you never want to part.
So, thank you for all that you do.
It's a blessing to have a friend like you.

  5. 3. Best Friends

An acrostic poem that tells of my friendship with a friend of over 40 years! Being able to talk freely with another person is rare, but it's a gift of a close friend. This is what marks a true friendship!

True Meaning Of Friendship Acrostic Poem

    Friendship is one that
    Relies on trust,
    Instilled between two people
Eager to share their ups and downs,
    Naturally giving way to
    Deep conversations of
    Soul stretching depths and
Harboring feelings that can only be shared
    Intimately with a close,
    Personal friend.

  6. 4. A Philia Love

    • By Joann Foley
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2017

Philia love is a love between close friends. It is a generous and affectionate love. Philia means brotherly or platonic love in Ancient Greek.

    Brotherly Love

You have a gentle heart and a caring soul.
You use affectionate words in order to extol.
You are a true treasure encased in my heart,
A bond so strong, it will never depart.

You easily bring out a piece of me
That proves so difficult for others to see.
You lift my spirits and fade my tears.
You give me a friendship that withstands and perseveres.

We are individuals who don’t want to do it alone,
So we use laughter and kindness as our cornerstone.
We support one another to grow separately,
While nurturing our friendship ever so tenderly.

I could not have imagined what you would mean to me
    When our friendship was new,
But now I can honestly say I’d be completely
    Lost without you.

I invite you to search my heart so you can find
A philia love for you that is pure and divine.
A gift to my heart you will always be.
My companionship is forever yours; that I guarantee.

    • By Kayla Basore

This poem is about my best friend, Ryan Caponi. I love him SO much!

    You are my best friend,
And you will be until the very end.
    You're always there for me,
    And I'm here for you.
    You really care about me,
And I'm really glad you do.

If we ever have a fight,
We'll try to make it right.
As long as we both try,
We'll never have to say goodbye.

I just want to say thank you
For being a great friend who's true.
I'll always be here for you,
Just like you're here for me.
Just one more thing before I go,
Your heart is bigger than the sea.

This is a poem I wrote about my best friend and me! I poured my feelings into this poem and I worked hard! Enjoy!

    Everyone Needs A Special Friend

We walk together, hand in hand.
We can go anywhere across the land.
We have much courage and so much pride
As we walk together, side by side.

We walk together without any fear,
    Whatever direction we may steer.
With strength so strong, there is no defeat
With anyone that we may meet.

We have it all; we are the best.
Together we beat all the rest.
Your loss in my heart would not mend.
Everyone needs someone like you, a special friend...

  9. 7. Her

    • By Kelby And Randi
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2016

My best friend wrote this, and I think I would die without her.

    You Are My Angel

    You are my fallen angel,
    Right down from the sky,
Saving me from heartbreak and tears,
As well as all my greatest fears.

Forever important you are to me.
The greatest of friends we will always be.

We laugh at even the smallest things.
Then you sweep me up in your angel wings,
And we fly through all our memories.

The good, the bad, and the oh so sad.
We will stick through it all until the end.
At every corner and every bend,
    You are still there.

Without you here I would waste away,
    Growing smaller with every day.

    You are my fallen angel,
    Right down from the sky.

My sister, idol, and best friend.
Without you, I think I would die.

    It may sound extreme,
    But it's only the truth...

    You are my fallen angel,
    Right down from the sky.
You give so much to me
That sometimes I think I can fly!

Now, always, and forever :) BFFs!

    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2016

I wrote this poem because I love my friends.

    Friends Change Our Lives

I met you as a stranger, then took you as my friend.
Our friendship is something that will never end.
When I was in darkness that needed some light,
You came to me and hugged me tight.

You took my hands and dried my tears.
You woke me up to end my fears.
You took my hand and made me see
That God has a special plan for me.

    You helped me laugh
    When I was sad.
    You made me tough
    When I felt bad.

Our friendship made me see the light.
Our friendship showed to me what was right.
I hope our friendship will never bend.
I hope our friendship will never end.

  11. 9. When The Rain Falls Hard

    • By Friel Grace
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2016

My friend showed me this website. Most of my poems are about other people and how I feel. Considering that my life revolves around the people I love, it makes more sense for me.

Poem About Being There For A Friend

    When the rain falls hard,
    I will be there.
When the wind beats you down,
    I will pull you up.
    When the going gets tough,
    I will push you through.
When you need a second chance,
    I will give you mine.
    When you fall,
I will laugh it off with you.
    When you need a friend,
I will give you a sister.
    When you want a hug,
I will hold you as long as you need.
When the rain comes crashing down
and the sun refuses to shine,
    when the lightning hits
    and the thunder flashes,
    when the wind blows
    and the leaves fall,
when the world seems to crash
    and there is nothing left,
    everything is gone,
    I will be there.
    Just so you know,
we can walk through this rain

  12. 10. My Best Friend, My Soul Mate

    • By Mahnoor Awan
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2015

This poem is about my best friend, Tooba Safdar. She is the best person I've ever known. She is always present with me through hard and tough times. She is the most important person to me. I love my best friend a lot.

Poem About Having Someone By Your Side

    Best friends are forever.
    I think of you
And all the days we have spent together.
You are my best friend, my soul mate,
And I know you will always be there until the end.

Your shoulder to cry on will always be there
    Whenever there is something wrong.
    When times are tough, you are always there;
It shows me your love and care.

Although we are going in separate ways,
You will always remain in my heart.
None in this world can see
How special you are to me.
You are my strength, you are my power,
My best friend, my soul mate.

I always dreamed of a friend like you,
And when I found you, it was like a dream come true.
You understand the worst side of me,
That no one can ever see.
You are the best person I've ever known,
My best friend, my soul mate.

    It is always that
Together we party and together we cry.
    We keep our every secret
    And cover each lie
'Cause we are best friends till the day we die.

The friend like you is hard to find.
You were always there when no one cared.
We have been through good and bad times,
And you always made me laugh when I was sad,
My best friend, my soul mate.

Best friends are like flowers, like a rose,
Or like a ghost whose spirit never dies.
You are always behind me whenever times are tough,
My best friend, my soul mate.

You are like a ray of sunshine,
Always present with me whenever the world as dark.
You have guided me through bad times,
    Wiped away my tears,
My best friend, my soul mate.

We are like two bodies and one soul.
You are the best person among rest.
Our time together is passing day by day,
But now until the very end,
You will always be my best friend,
My best friend, my soul mate.

  13. 11. Like A Cannonball

I wrote this poem for my best friend who has always been supportive and helpful. Like a cannonball falls without stopping, I fall for her the same way.

    Poem About A Friend's Support

    Like a parachute,
You save me from the fall.
    I keep falling for you,
    Like a cannonball.

Oh, what would I be without you?
I will never let you down.
Tell me what you want me to do.
    I'll be a listener, a clown.

    You are someone unique.
    I feel warm inside.
    You make my heart weak.
It wants to go and hide.

    Not because you harm it,
    But because it is afraid.
It will melt and be hit
By your love and the words said.

But I let it out to you,
Because some people ARE worth melting for.
You show me a relation true,
    Happiness and craziness more.

Best friend is a small term.
    You are worth much more.
Our relation is a long one.
    You help me swim ashore.

    I can't even express.
    How much I treasure you.
    You define happiness.
You are my minion and I'm Gru.

    We are infinite.
    Happiness, craziness, care
    Is all we have outright.
    Just be sad, I dare!

    Like the trees keep losing
    Their leaves every fall,
    I keep falling for you,
    Like a cannonball.

  14. 12. Best Friend

I wrote this poem about my best friends, Jazz and Alexis. I can truly say they are amazing.

    Strength Of A Friendship

You are my best friend; you belong in my heart.
We go through ups and downs, but still nothing can tear us apart.
I know you as a sister, and I will always care.
Love, respect, and trust are the things we share.

I know you as a person; I especially know you as a friend.
Our friendship is something that will never end.
Right now, this second, this minute, this day,
Our sisterhood is here, is here to stay.

My friendship with you is special and true.
When we are together, we stick like glue.
When I'm in the darkness that needs some light,
When you're by my side, I know things are all right.

Our friendship is so strong; it breaks down bars.
Our friendship is also bright, like the sun and the stars.
If we were in a competition for friendships, we would get a gold,
Because responsibility and cleverness are the keys we hold.

I met you as a stranger, took you as a friend.
I hope our long friendship will never end.
Our friendship is like a magnet; it pulls us together,
Because no matter where we are, our friendship will last forever!

  15. 13. To My Treasured Friend

When you live to be 93, as I have, you will have seen many things of value, but what I have always treasured most has been my many friends. When you live this long, you have the sadness of losing most of them, but the cherished times together will always remain.

Poem About What True Friendship Means

Though there is gold up in the mountains,
Lovely pearls deep in the sea,
Those treasures do not mean as much
As your friendship means to me.
    While diamonds may be beautiful,
And worth a lot of money,
They cannot give a warm embrace
Or share jokes we think are funny.
I know it's true some people
    Will collect much priceless art,
Yet I have never seen a picture
That showed me a loving heart.
So I don't need to spend a fortune
To have what means the most to me.
Knowing that I have had your friendship
    Will be a treasured memory.

This poem is about never being alone and always having someone who cares.

When you're feeling down and blue,
And life is being cruel to you,
Just remember you're not on your own.
I'm always there; you're never alone.
You might not be able to see my face,
As hard as you look around the place,
But close your eyes and think of me,
And before you know it, there will be me.
Keep me in the midst of your mind,
And life will seem easier, I think you'll find,
So when life gets too dark to bear,
Just close your eyes and I will be there.

To my best friend, Ella. Love you :)

We have had the most awesome times,

We promise so many things for each other,
    things that are so wrong.
    They're right,
    they're crazy,

and now I'm on the other side of the world,
and I cry every now and then,
but I know in my heart
    even if we're worlds apart,
not the seas, oceans or land,
can separate the friendship that we have.
    We are best friends.
    More than that,
you are my sister, my twin,
and I'm proud of everything that's been
    between you and I.
I will see you in a few years,
    and that's no lie,

  20. 18. Through Thick And Thin

    • By Annie Hall
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2011

We all have friends (even best friends), but do they always know how much you truly care about them? Just because they aren't always with you, it doesn't mean they stop thinking about you and vice versa. Don't ever forget to tell them how much they mean to you. Whether near or far, true friendship is a bond that shall always remain.

I could skip a heartbeat, and I would survive.
I could be in a car crash and still be alive.
The clouds could fall out of the sky.
The oceans could disappear and all turn dry.

These things in life are all bad, I know,
but there's far worse things, just thought you should know.

Life would not be the same without someone like you.
You're there when I need you to help me through.
Through the good times and through the bad,
Be them happy or be them sad.

I don't have to be with you to know you're there.
We don't have to see each other to know that we care.
We could be apart for years upon end
and still remain the best of friends.

Life goes on, and people change,
And through it all, our friendship shall remain the same.
That's such as life and how things come to be.
Just thought you should know how much you mean to me!

  21. 19. My Best Friend Connie Marie

    • By Baylee Mcbride
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2009

I wrote this poem about my best friend Connie.
We have been best friends for thirteen years, and still counting.

    We Forgave And Forgot

You are my best friend, and that will always be true.
We've had our ups and downs, thick and thin we've been through.
I can't even explain it, I'm head over heels.
I love being your friend, and how great it feels.

Your chocolate brown hair, and brown eyes too.
You can cheer me up, whenever I'm blue.
We take trips to the river, the water is nice.
We always go there, even when it's covered in ice.

But grade five did come, and we split apart.
No longer were we friends, and that broke my heart.
But after a while, we forgave and forgot.
Our friendship was saved, and not left to rot.

I'm writing this poem to show that I care.
Each waking moment I know that your there.
Whenever you need me, I'll be by your side.
I say that with love, and I say that with pride.

We're like two peas in a pod, and maybe a carrot.
We exchange each hello, just like a pet store parrot.
Every passing day, and every passing hour.
Like most best friends do, we have unlimited power.

I'm proud to say, that Connie Marie.
we're best friends forever, I'm sure you'll agree.

    Best Friends,
    The title we chose,
But what does it mean to be "best friends"?
You should see each other every day?
Well that's not true for you and me.
Should silly little fights get in our way?
Only if that's how it's meant to be.
    Should we give?
    Should we borrow?
Should we dance like there's not tomorrow?
    Secrets are traded,
    Privacy invaded,
    Hugs and smiles are shared,
    Tears are shed,
    Love is spread.
We know that we both really cared.
    I smile, you smile.
    You cry, I cry.
    I wish, you wish.
    You die, I die.
    If you fall,
    I'll help you up,
    And if you call,
    I'll always pick up.
    Best Friends Forever...
    The promise we made,
And I know in my heart
    That it will never fade.
