Why Can't We Just Be Human

I used to write a lot of poetry as a teenagers and dip my toe in writing every now and then.
Now a mummy to a beautiful little girl who makes me so proud.

Just for today,
Can we forget about race,
Colour, religion
And who isn't 'straight'

Just for today,
Can we forget about soil,
Land, who it belongs to
Why do we fight over oil?

Just for today
Can we forget about God,
Who's right or who's wrong
Can we do a little more love

Just for today,
Let us forget about creed,
No more fighting or hatred
Aren't we just human beings?
