Poem To Encourage Volunteering

I really enjoy working with the special needs kids at school and volunteer when I have the time. This was written at 15 and the end of my freshman year.

It's Time To Help Them

Have you ever asked
Why the singing bird sings?
Why people help people
Without gaining a thing?

What makes some selfish
And others of us not?
What caused the lucky
To donate that lot?

Whether it's blankets for the homeless
Or money for the poor,
It's always quite helpful
Just a little or even more.

There are other ways to help
Besides having to give.
You can volunteer
Or help them clean where they live.

Just listen to their problems,
Help them stay afloat,
And maybe, just maybe,
This will give them some hope.
