Short Poems about Friends

Being friends is about sharing our lives with others. There are some aspects of our lives that require that we spend a lot of time together or a lot of writing to help convey our feelings. Other times sharing only a few words are more than adequate. It is not always the long conversation that conveys the deepest feelings. Sometimes, longer modes of expression may seem redundant and lacking in profundity. Putting just the right combination of words on paper in a succinct style may just hit the spot.

  1. 1. A Smile

I love smiles. I love smiling at people and receiving smiles. I've seen many times that when a person is sad, a smile could turn his whole day around and make him happy or at least make him forget his pain.

    Poem About Improving Someone's Day

When someone's having a bad day,
A smile could go a long way,
So make sure to put one on
And keep it until the day is gone.
You don't know what this deed
Could do for a friend in need.
It might save them from the pain
Of a sadness they cannot contain.
Don't ask what a smile can do
Because I'm sure it once helped you.

  3. 2. Ode To Friendships

    • By Kayla Rae Pich
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2015

I'm a 14-year-old girl living in Alberta, Canada. This poem was written on a day when I was reminiscing on memories of my friends. They were both unsure of the schools they were going to attend in grade 10, and this had torn me apart. Just the thought of not seeing them every day in the morning hallways was an unimaginable idea because things just don't work like that! My poem shows my immense appreciation that I have for these two amazing people in my life, and I feel that it describes our relationship perfectly.

    Poem About Qualities Of Friendships

    Friends...
They're the few people who accept silence over conversation.
A relationship like this denies silly promises and persuasion.
You don't feel the need to second guess thoughts or measure words.
Their love comes in wholes, not halves, not thirds.
They're the ones that guide you through when fate takes a turn.
Fights, small and large, end in forgiveness, never a burn.
You forget about first impressions and the feelings they brought.
You're grateful for who they are and you forgive 'em for what they're not.

  5. 3. Care And Happiness

    • By Shishir
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2015

I wrote this poem to tell my best friend that her support and care during a period of loneliness and despair has helped me to regain happiness.

    Poem About A Friend's Support

You came as a ray of light,
Made my life cheerful and bright,
    Showering your affection over me
So that my face was full of glee.
    Taking away my complete loneliness
And giving me back all the happiness
With a Midas touch of your care
To keep me away from despair.
    I'll never leave you midway,
And tales of our bond people will say.

  6. 4. True Friend

    • By Ashley Campbell
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2012

Many people have friends they can trust. Some have friends who aren't loyal and friends who don't treat others the way they should. So this poem is to let a friend know how special they are. It also tells you what a real friend is like.

    Short True Friend Poem

A friend is like a star that twinkles and glows
Or maybe like the ocean that gently flows.
A friend is like gold that you should treasure
And take care of forever and ever.
A friend is like an angel that is there to guide you.
A friend is someone you can trust out of a few.
A friend is more than one in a million.
They are one in a ca-zillion,
And you, my friend, are very special
    and so it is official.

  7. 5. True Friends

True friends are those who stand by you through good and bad times. This is a short poem I sent to my dear friend.

    Friends In Need

    Whenever life gets you down,
    Remember I'll always be around;
All you have to do is call.

    When your dreams disappear,
    I'll always be near
To catch you when you fall.

    So remember, dear friend,
    On me you can depend;
    Nothing's too much at all.

    I will stand by your side;
    I won't run and hide.
Seeing you happy is my reward.

    A poem about my friendship.

Best friends stick together till the end.
They are like a straight line that will not bend.

    They trust each other forever,
No matter if you're apart or together.

They can be your hero and save the day.
They will never leave your side; they are here to stay.

They help you up when you fall.
Your true friends are best of all.

Hi my name is Zoe. I am only 9 years old, and I love poems, especially friendship poems. When I showed my friends, they were amazed, so I hope you like it.

    You're A Friend

    You're a friend, my companion.

    With smiles

Poem About Affection To A Friend

When you love and hold me without any fear
    Happiness spreads throughout the atmosphere.
You look to me with grace and confidence,
And we talk about all positive things without any rants.
In your company, the good times move very fast.
I promise I'll look after you till I breathe my last.

  12. 10. We All Need A Safe Space

    We all need
    a safe space
    to rest our tired feet
    and set down
    our weary hearts.
    We all need
    a friend who
    welcomes us in
    and reminds us that
    we don’t have
    to be perfect
    to belong.

I wrote this for my best friend during a time of need. Whether she needed a little faith, a shoulder to cry on, or some encouraging words, I wanted her to know I was here.

You Have Your Best Friend's Love

If you're feeling down; turn your frown upside down.
Put a smile on your face; take the world in your embrace.
Ask for a little help from the man up above.
And remember you have your best friend's love.

  14. 12. Time Shared

This poem is how I feel when I meet someone really nice and how much I savour the moments of certain friends who now and again reflect upon time shared together.

    Kindness And Friendship

    Close my eyes, I do give thought;
The lessons learned that I've been taught.

    Share in kindness, lend an ear;
    Be understanding, be sincere.

    Compassion show, right from the start;
Share in comfort, use your heart.

    Simple things, difference does make;
Smiles are gifts, a true keepsake.

    Eyes wide open, something so true;
Just love the time I share with you.

  15. 13. Smile It Is Free

    • By Unknown
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2008

Keep a smile on your face; it makes the world a better place.

A smile is cheer from you to me,
the cost is nothing, it's given for free.
They console the weary and gladden the sad.
And can make someone happy when they are mad.
Unlike blessings in which we pray
it's the only thing you keep when you give it away.

A well known version of this poem with an Author Unknown goes like this:

A smile is cheer to you and me
It comforts the weary, gladdens the sad
consoles those in trouble, good or bad.
To rich and poor, beggar or thief,
it’s free to all of any belief.
A natural gesture of young and old
cheers on the faint, disarms the bold.
Unlike most blessings for which we pray,
it’s one thing we keep when we give it away.

  18. 16. We're Best Friends

    • By Nikita
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2008

This poem was made when I moved away, but I soon moved back. I felt upset, so I wrote this poem.

Like a daisy in the sun,
    she's my friend ,she's no.1,
she is as sweet as a chocolate bun,
    she still remembers she's no.1,
so if you think you're feeling down,
give a friend a call; she'll clean the frown.
'cause a friend is there when the world spins round.

She is nicer than the rest.
When you are sad and have a frown,
She will turn it upside down.

I'm a young girl who fell out with her mates, so I wrote this poem while I was feeling sad.

I shed a tear today silently,
I felt it fall; you caught it,
    shared it,
    held it,
    felt it,
    then suddenly,
it wasn't that big after all.
