Daughter Death Poem

The Unbreakable Mother-Child Bond

I lost my 22-year-old daughter to homicide many years ago. Although the initial terrible grief has passed, not a day goes by when I don't think of her. We have a bond that cannot be broken, even by death. She is truly a part of me.

The Heart I Carry

Within my heart beats a separate pulse
With a rhythm all its own.
It comforts me in my times of need
And keeps me from feeling alone.

It provides me with memories, which make me smile
And keep my tears at bay.
It offers me a spiritual hug
When I'm having a difficult day.

It is the sweet heart of my daughter,
Long gone, but still held deep within.
It is all that I have, but it is enough.
It is everything she might have been.
