Grandchildren Poem

The Beauty Of My Grandkids

I am a retired professional who writes poetry for a hobby. I write mostly rhyming poems, but am experimenting with free verse poetry. This is a free verse poem I wrote after visiting my beautiful grandchildren.

I do not think my son will write a poem for me.
But the gifts he has bestowed are beyond the
ken of poets. He and his twice- amazing wife
have introduced their gorgeous son and daughter
to an unworthy world.

Together, the sweetness and beauty of these
children is its own poetry. And describing this
astounding poem would give the greatest poet fits.

The steel in my grandson's eyes has turned
to ocean blue, and I am drowning.  He is a man
waiting impatiently for his body to grow.

His sister is a chaos of beauty, character and
determination that is quite frankly intimidating.
The boy need not worry about a thing with this
powerhouse protecting him. He is, after all,
the brother she so clearly loves.

What wonders await the world from these two?
It has often been said that the children are our
future. If that is the case, our future is very
bright indeed!
