Poems about the Power of Music

It is said that everyone marches to the beat of a drum. There is a soundtrack that individuals live their lives too. For teenagers, the music is often extremely intense. You may dance to the angry sound of heavy metal, the passion of a love song, or the empty sounding chords of depression. The sound changes from day to day, and even from moment to moment. Do not underestimate the power of music.

  1. 1. Where Words Fail, Music Speaks

    • By Lucy Rudman
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011

We all know the saying, "Where words fail, music speaks," from the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. Right? Well, I turned it into a poem about my life and what I am going through, and possibly others can relate. Please comment.

    Where words fail,
    music speaks.
    It speaks of the pain,
    of the sorrow,

  3. 2. A Friend Found In Music

I always go to music when I feel blue, so I decided to write a poem about music; it never fails to cheer me up.

    Music is the ocean
That pulls me to the shore.
    Music is the rhythm
That moves me to the core.

This poem is just about music.

  6. 4. Get Lost In The Music

I wrote this poem while listening to my mp3 player. I just started thinking about how music affects me and how it suits me. I love just being alone and enjoying my music.

Music is part of my everyday life.
It's the one thing that makes me feel alive.
No matter what it could be,
    all music influences me.

  7. 5. The Loudest Shadow

    • By Anthony
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011

It starts of rocky, and it's a little confusing, but I tried to get most of a teen's troubles to fit somewhere in here.

It begins as a noise in the background
keeping steady beat as it makes its round.
It can be found at any time of day.
It's so simple, just push play.

    • By Jbizzy
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011

Music is like my best friend. I just want to share what I love the most. This is my first poem.

Music travels all around my body.
Now I can say it's living right through me.
    Listening to music puts me in a good mood;
It makes me want to stand up and start to groove.

  9. 7. You Only Need To Look

    • By Andrew Hanson
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2016

My passion for music takes many forms. I play whenever I get the chance, and it's one of the things I enjoy the most. I wrote this after a long day of playing, when I was still a little high on my music. I truly believe that anyone can find serenity within its grasp. You just need to look.

When my day is heading down,
With no solution I can see,
    I need only look around.
    It's flowing all around me.

  10. 8. A Helping Musical

    • By Sadwick
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2020

The idea behind this poem is music can remind us to give and be creative. Being slightly a composer of music, you pour your heart, effort, and time into your music. It's not the finishing touch of the last note nor the iTunes popularity that is rewarding. What is rewarding is that music is a gift that helps others through hard times. It's been there since the dark ages.

    A blank parchment is lifeless
Until a pen creates a melody.
    A song is revered ageless
    Because of a sweet harmony.

  11. 9. Music Is Poetry

    • By Kristine Black
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2015

I'm 24 years old and have been writing poetry since I was 12 years old. It's always been an outlet for me, and I enjoy reading other people's poetry as well.

    Music is poetry,
    An expression of the heart.
I can feel it in me when the music starts.
    My blood is flowing,

  12. 10. Music Understands Me

    • By Anonymous
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems August 2013

I get very depressed sometimes, and the only way to make me happy again is to let me listen to music for a few hours. I have a strange bond with it that nobody seems to understand. This poem is about how depressed I get, and how music is always there for me... so... I hope you people like it!

    I feel alone and scared,
My past haunts me every day,
    But the music understands me.

  13. 11. Sing

    • By Brittany
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2009

I wrote this because I love to sing, but somehow it never brings that special joy you think it will. Then somehow when you don't believe in the joy that should come you lose your voice...and nothing sounds beautiful anymore. I'm at that stage now, wondering how to get out of this dark abyss of loneliness. Don't you think that'd be grand?

    Sing until your heart gives out;
    that's what they all say,
but what is left after that
if the music takes it all away?

  14. 12. Music

    • By Bella
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2015

I had to write this poem for my music course homework at the beginning of this year (I'm in year 7). I love to write, and I've written my own story, which one day I hope to get published. I hope you like this poem, and I hope it inspires people to write more poems.

Music is a privilege to all who hear her sing.
Joy, heart and happiness is mostly what she'll bring.
Her mood is your shadow: anger, love and irritation,
Her mood reflects your own in a way of imitation.

  15. 13. Love For The Music

    • By Waldo Garcia
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011

I wrote this poem because I have a deep passion for music, and I've been doing it for a long time. Music is not just a hobby for me; it's my life. I was inspired by an old musician. The poem didn't really say his name, but the poem was how he had a deep passion for his guitar since he was a small boy.

The rhythm, and of course the beat.
Moving side to side and dancing the floor.
Feel the music flowing all through your feet.
The beat's so good, it makes you want some more.

  16. 14. Music Of My Life

    • By Kelsey Storz
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011

    Music...the feeling you could get

    The music takes my soul,
Takes it through the wind and around the autumn trees,
    As the earth turns slowly.
Each song makes me wonder what really goes on while I'm asleep.

  17. 15. The Melody

    • By Elysia
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011

I would be nowhere in life without my music, this poem is dedicated to every musical influence I've ever experienced.

The heart beats in time with the sounds of drums
The hand swaying to the violins chord
Each note is remembered, thought about and adored
As every soul in the room joins to the music and hums
