Loss Poem

Son Died Unexpectedly From A Seizure

My 33-year-old son died unexpectedly on the fist day of Spring, 2010. He died during a seizure in his sleep. His cause of death remains unknown. I am still grieving. He was my only child. He was my life.

Is That You?

Is that you?
The falling star in the night,
So pure, so bright.

Is that you?
The breeze gently blowing through my hair
Telling me that you are still there.

Is that you?
The golden ball rising in the east,
Bringing hope that a new day, the sorrow will ease.

Is that you?
Setting in the west,
Bringing a night of peace and rest.

Is that you?
Who dries my tears
As I gaze towards my future fears.

Is that you?
Who makes me smile at life's irony
That other people often cannot see.

Is that you?
Who gives me strength to carry on
Even though you are gone.

Is that you?
Yes, it is you. Your are with me always.

My son's girlfriend who had lived with us died at the young age of thirty. Trina was such a sweet girl. She was like a daughter to me. It's been 5 weeks but seems like yesterday. She had epilepsy and since there was no other cause they say it was a seizure. I try to be strong for Cody but inside I am broken.

I lost my baby sister on the 2nd of August 2014. She also had a seizure in her sleep. I also do not know her cause of death. I miss her so much...she was only 29. I don't understand why she's gone so soon in her life.

My nephew, Joshua John Rogers, took his own life at age 31, February 4, 2012. My brother asked me if I wanted to speak at his memorial service and I saw your poem and I knew that I had to share because it reminded me of Josh. My daughters and I were crossing the Mississippi River into Tennessee, within a few miles of Josh, to eat catfish, when his aunt called me looking for my brother. I felt so close to Josh and yet so far away as we were crossing the river, with the eagles soaring above me, like he was still with me. I am sorry for your loss, Thank-you for sharing your poem. This reminds me of my niece and nephew and that they died at the age of 30 days and 32 days... My niece Destiny lived only 32 Days because of her father. My Nephew Ronnie died also because of the father.. Just feeling their soft, small body made a memory forever... RIP Ronnie & Destiny

I'm sorry for your loss but I can sort of relate to how you are feeling. I lost my Cousin Donnie in July of 2010 and the my Uncle Alan in September of 2010. I know I don't completely understand your grief but I do know how hard it is to lose someone close to you. Thanks for sharing the poem.
