True Love Poem

I wrote this poem before when I was deeply in love with this guy who happens to be a seminarian. We became friends and still are best friends even if he will soon be ordained. He is really so special!

I do believe the Lord above
Created you for me to feel the love.
He picked you up from all the rest
Because He knows I love you best.

I have a heart that one so true,
But now it's gone from me to you,
So care for it as I do,
And be with it 'till life is through.

Remember best what I say to you,
For time will come that I will go.
No matter how far I am from you,
This feeling I have will stand true.

If fortune sway and want it to go away,
Don't throw it, please; for it will hurt me deeply.
Give it back and I will accept fully.
Save it for you if you need it someday.

And if ever you find another mission on your way,
Don't be afraid to tell me honestly,
As my love for you will remain truly,
Willing to understand you and give you way.

In 1969, I completed ground and air school in Fort Rucker, AL. I was already a commissioned 2lt. On 11/18/71, I flew my first combat dust off mission in a Huey Uh 60 helicopter. Before leaving the Us via San Diego, I put a poem in my flak jacket. It was from the girl I had loved since I was 14. Through 18 months of hell on earth, I returned to my home in Valdosta, GA. In my pocket was this tattered poem of my love for her. That was almost 50 years ago. We've been married since 1974 and I carry that poem, my heart, and my survival from the girl named Dreama Carol.

Wow that's really amazing! Thank you for sharing your stories. True love indeed.
