  1. 21. Before The Reaper Comes

I think most poets feel this way.

    before the bullet it bit
    before the candle is lit
    before the last call
    before the curtain falls

    Slipping, spiraling
    Falling down and down
    My breath is suppressed
    My heartbeat ripped away

  3. 23. Lost Innocence

    • By Michaela Remmel
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems April 2015

Humans have wronged, and I have noticed. You must imagine how strange it feels to a 14-year-old girl having to hear of all this hatred in school and on television. Unlike many teens, I'm using my talents to explain how I view the world. This took me a while to write and I had many mistakes to fix before I was comfortable enough to put it online. I hope that everyone who reads it can see a glimpse of the world from my perspective. Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy.

    Wind whistling,
    Snow glistening,
    We try not to,
    But we're all listening.

  4. 24. The Mask

I wrote this poem back in 1997, I just came across it while going through some papers. I hope that you enjoy it.

I look in the mirror at the beginning of each day,
and ask myself what mask should I place on my face today.

No not the sad one it's too revealing,

Every day everyone wears different masks to cover up their sadness. They put on masks of happiness, and you don’t know what’s in their mind. They cover up everything like their heartbreak....

  5. 25. The Music Of The Night

As a poor sleeper, I often lie awake and listen to the sounds of a quiet house. Sometimes it's frightening; other times it's comforting, but it is always entertaining.

When demons pick at my troubled mind
And the passage to sleep becomes harder to find,
I close my eyes, turn out the light
And listen to the music of the night.

  6. 26. Tell Me

    Why don't people understand me?

Why do things always happen this way?
Why does my heart choose to stay closed?
Why can't you hear my pain?
    This is all I ask.

    • By Shawna
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 10, 2022

So many of us lost in life,
    no idea where to go.
Do we follow our heart's desire?
Do we stay, or should we go?

  8. 28. I'm My Own Best Friend

In this age of social media, so many people allow themselves to be defined by the opinions of others. If they don't get a "like," they feel wounded. This poem is about letting your own beliefs and opinions define who you are. Don't let the criticism of others define you. Define your own goals and be happy with your own successes. Don't worry about what others do or say.

    I'm good enough;
I don't care what you say.
    I'm proud of what
    I accomplished today.

  9. 29. Purpose

A poem telling people to stop wasting their life trying to find their purpose but to just have fun living their life and be comfortable with who they are.

Don't be nervous when finding your purpose.
To simply be alive is just scratching the surface.

As life goes on, you will find out the truth.

  10. 30. Trouble

    • By Tanya M. DeVeer
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006

A poem about getting through the hard times.

Troubled times are here, as we knew they would come
Not because of the situation, just because life in general is not always fun
But we can overcome them, together we must
Because the love that we have shared was surely built with trust

  12. 32. To Live And To Love

We were put on this planet to live and to love. Open your arms to life, and life will hug you back. This is one of my very first poems. I believe I was 12 when I wrote this poem!

We were put on this planet
    To live and to love.
To cherish the ones in our lives
And never let them get hurt.

  13. 33. Lights

This poem is about a request to someone very close to me. I am asking him to guide me and stay by my side, no matter what happens...

Light up the way for me.
    I'm scared of the dark.
    Illuminate the blackest road

  14. 34. Short Life Summary

    • By Hgr
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2015

I began writing poetry not too long ago. I like to sit and think and write about things that come to my mind. It's not something I'm always doing in my spare time because high school is my main thing at the moment. I hope you enjoy it, and please tell me what you think.

Life and death; without one there cannot be the other.
For some, it's short, but they live it like no other.
For most, it's long, and to be happy they don't ever bother.
Life cannot be lived without the love of others.

  15. 35. On Adversity

Adversity is part of our lives. There is no one who has never faced a hardship in life. This poem attempts to show the lessons adversity has to offer.

Adversity brings out the best in you
It often helps to find something new -

A hidden talent or clears a doubt

  16. 36. My Life

    • By Taylor Beckham
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2015

I was a little girl when I was adopted by my dad. My biological father was in prison. When I was 9 or 10, my adopted father left us as well. The pain I felt was excruciating. Watching my mom hurt for so long hurt me as well. My mom worked all the time, so I had to step up and take care of things while she was gone. I cleaned the house, cooked, and watched my baby brother so she could make enough money for us to live on while still finding time to keep my grades up. I felt the LOVE from my "dad" was a LIE!

    All of my life
I was living in a lie.
    It seems that my childhood
    has flown right by.

    C'Est La Vie
