  1. 21. If Only You Knew

    • By Jackie
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2009

A poem I wrote to get over the suicide of a close family member/friend.

I never told you because I thought you knew,
but I am not sure that would change what you planned so long to do.

I had a funny feeling something was wrong,

    • By Morgan
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2015

On August 26, I lost a close friend, and I wrote this poem to let out some of the emotions.

I wish that I could talk to you,
and beg you not to go.
I wish I asked what you were going through,
    but now I'll never know.

  3. 23. Stay With Me

When life gets too hard, and existence itself seems endurable, why should anyone hang on? When you reach the point where even the thought of the people you're leaving behind can't stop you, it is impossible to look back, to see the light in the world. I have a friend who has reached this point many times and attempted to take her own life on multiple occasions. There is so much I wish I could say to her. So much. I know it might not make a difference, but it helps me to know I tried.

    How can I tell you
    How can I say

    What you'll miss

This poem was originally birthed on 8/28/07. I was going through some rough times, and crazy thoughts were going through my mind...

My life is now my delusion,
    A world made of fantasies.
Happiness is no longer the illusion,
My life is my new disease.

  6. 26. Why Dad Did You Choose Suicide?

    • By Christina M. Butz
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006

Why Dad? Why did you chose suicide? You left no note.

    Why Dad?
Why did you chose to die?
You left no note but left me asking why.
You thought you were doing what was best and right.

  8. 28. Tears Of A Dead Man

    • By Vili P. Lahtinen
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems January 2017

I made this poem when I was deeply depressed to remind me of "good things" in my life and stop me from contemplating suicide. So far it has worked.

The morning sky is colored red with blood.
Meaning that someone died last night.
I wonder why. This morning casts a foul mood.
Something seems off today; this doesn't feel right.

  9. 29. Happy 17

    • By Shane
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2008

I am a father who lost my daughter through suicide at the tender age of 15 in February 2007. I cherish the time that was given to me while she was with me. There was truly a magical spirit within her that made her unique, like all our children. I unfortunately know the pain this brings to a parent. I have a beautiful son who I devote all the time to. Don't let a chance go past without taking it.

Was on this day that your were born
A ray of sunshine that I adorned
From heaven above you were sent to us
Hand crafted and unique, one of a kind you were made...

  10. 30. She Finally Gave In...

    • By JJ
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2012

This poem is about one of my best friends who committed suicide. I miss her everyday and nothing will ever be the same without her here. I should have said I love you back to her but I didn't.. I love you Sarah.

The girl who seemed unbreakable finally broke.
The girl who seemed so strong finally fell and crumbled.
The girl who always laughed finally cried
and the girl who never stopped trying... finally gave up......

  12. 32. May Eleventh

    • By Abby Miller
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2012

I wrote this poem trying to describe in so few words what I was feeling the night I lost my best friend to suicide. My Tanner was an amazing person. He was the kind of guy who could light up a whole room. Losing him was the worst thing in my life I have had to endure so far. To anyone that reads this, don't ever put your best friend through this. They will never forgive themselves.

    It started out quiet
    Like a dull hum
    Then grew like cancer
    Till my body was numb

  13. 33. Why, What If, And If Only

    • By Lucy
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems January 2011

I wrote this on the anniversary of my mother's death, she committed suicide shortly after her 50th birthday, loosing a life-long battle with depression and mental illness. I was only 21, I had spent my teens caring for her through her illness and as a mother myself now I find myself asking why it had to end the way it did.

Four years have passed and still I have to ask myself, why, what if, and if only.
Why did you choose that day to die?
What if I had been there for you?
And if only I had gotten there sooner....

  14. 34. Thank You

    • By Sarah
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2008

This poem is a suicide note from a person choosing to give up without the support of a special person who was once around.

I can't take it, it's come to me.
That this life wasn't meant to be.
As I take this choice and let myself go.
I think to myself, how you'd say no!...

  15. 35. All On A Silent Night

    • By Rebecca MaCarthur
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2010

I have contemplated suicide many times... This is how close I came, and how I felt..

    On a silent night.
I lay in the dark, not caring, trying not to breathe.
It's almost time, time to say goodbye.
Never again will I shout in pain....

  16. 36. Deadly Memory

    • By Allison Washburn
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2012

This poem came to one day and all I could see was the picture at the end. The image was so beautiful and heartbreaking that I had to write something out that revolved around it.

Hand shakes silently as I reach for the knob
Pull my hand back, I'm too weak to do it
Turn to walk away before I remember
I'm doing this for me, I'm doing this for you...

  17. 37. The Demons And Me

    • By Levari
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2010

Some things in life just can't be explained. The pain and sadness a person truly feels inside is unique and although we try to understand we never truly will. This poem was written about a traumatic experience in my life that has consumed 15 long years and counting. Sometimes it's just not possible to move forward.

I got this feeling deep inside,
Not sadness or hatred not even pride,
A blank spot on a map,
    Where something use to be,...
