Husband Death Poem

Dedication To Deceased Husband At Funeral Service

On the morning of my husband's funeral, I wanted to write something to share with family and friends what the years had meant to us. I started to write a poem, and this is what I wrote. My feelings were not sad since I did my serious grieving silently for 21 months from the moment he was first diagnosed with cancer. I have written about seasonal feelings, joyous celebrations, ode to giving voice to an inanimate object and this dedication to my husband at his funeral 2 years ago.

Now the final time is here
And you have always been so dear
That my heart overflows
with the memories of all those years.

Though the years flew by
We had the dreams to make come true
And as sure as the sky is blue
One thing is very certain
This is not the final curtain
And one day I shall join you
in that place you now enjoy.

So, I will not say goodbye
For you are just beyond that sky.
