Ode To My Children

Published by Family Friend Poems July 2015 with permission of the Author.

I have four of the best,
The best of four.
Three girls and one boy whom I could not love more.
On the day you were born,
I held you in my arms.
I made a promise to keep you safe from harm.

I'll try my hardest, I'll try my best,
To set you apart from all the rest.
For I look at myself and what I have done,
And I look at you and what I want you to become.
I will try to guide you the best I can,
To give you the life I know I can.

A life of love, a life of emotion,
For the feelings I have are of utter devotion.
My love for you will never falter,
As you are the changes for which my life did alter.
But you brought a change for the best,
As I became prouder than the rest.
For I was a man who became a father,
And I look at your smiles,
I could not be prouder.
