Famous Love Poem

Many of Pablo Neruda’s love poems helped him get known as an important Chilean poet. In this poem, he can’t fully explain his love, but he feels it deeply. It’s not one of show. Instead, it’s a love that’s simple and humble, a love that sees the beauty hidden within a person. The repetition of “I love you” brings attention to the poet’s desire to convey his feelings for the subject of this poem.

One Hundred Love Sonnets

Pablo Neruda By more Pablo Neruda

I don’t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz,
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as one loves certain obscure things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom but carries
the light of those flowers, hidden, within itself,
and thanks to your love the tight aroma that arose
from the earth lives dimly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you directly without problems or pride:
I love you like this because I don’t know any other way to love,
except in this form in which I am not nor are you,
so close that your hand upon my chest is mine,
so close that your eyes close with my dreams.

I heard, "We are one." The word 'ardent' also comes to mind. It would be an amazing feeling to love or be loved this deeply. Classic for sure!

I came across this poem in the movie Chemical Hearts and searched online. My ex contacted me after 20 years and somewhere in my heart could relate to this poem so much. It was a way to express what I felt for him, words that I couldn't find to express how I felt when he left me. Gave me the closure I so needed after so long.

Love is a feeling which is hard to put down into words. But as Pablo Neruda goes on to capture the finer nuances of love, you cannot help but just fall in love with love. Such an understanding of one's own heart is difficult in today's rush. But when you sit down with a poem this beautiful, you are at rest within as the world goes by. You come to peace with your own being and fall in love over and over.

The poems are beautiful. My husband might not be perfect, but he is perfect for me. The childhood sweethearts ever and always in my heart. Sometimes people are separated by circumstance but reunited by destiny - that was our case. He healed me of cancer, and God has given him a great gift. So proud of this incredible doctor and human being. Thank you to you and your great team.

This poem touched my heart in ways that I didn't even know was possible. I never thought I would be able to understand my own heart as well as I do now. This poem completely captures the way I feel and sums it up in an elegant manner that is absolutely breath taking. I have never connected so fully with a piece of literature before. I will never forget this. I will keep it with me always.
