Fear Poem

Poem About Allowing Ourselves To Feel

We've all experienced heartbreak, disappointment and pain... and we often, without even realizing it, build up defenses in an attempt to protect ourselves from difficult feelings or emotions. We all have our own unique variation of "The Brick Wall"... (Authored in 1997)

The Brick Wall

The Brick Wall is confusion, that's deep within your heart,
Confusion that's so powerful, it can tear itself apart.

The Brick Wall is that fear, the fear of your own flaws,
The fear of imperfection, clutched within its claws.

The Brick Wall is a kiss, that isn't quite complete,
It leaves a taste on your lips, that's oh so bittersweet.

The Brick Wall is sorrow, churning deep inside,
A sorrow that needs to surface, yet you won't abide.

The Brick Wall is a tear, that is salty and yet sweet,
Its origin is deep inside, from where our hearts beat.

The Brick Wall is a butterfly, that wants to spread its wings,
Yet it can't rise, from the ground to which it clings.

The Brick Wall is life, that has not experienced living,
It's like an outstretched hand, that's receiving but not giving.

The Brick Wall is emptiness, it's a complete lack of love,
Yet not defined as hate, for its essence is from above.

The Brick Wall is on the surface, yet runs as deep as the soul,
It stands so tall and proud, yet its center is a hole.

The Brick Wall is laughter, yet bitter just the same,
Just like tears of joy, are still tears by name.

The Brick Wall is a wish, that doesn't have a star,
It yearns to be fulfilled, but its cry is from afar.

The Brick Wall is darkness, buried under light,
Struggling to free itself, yet subdued by its own plight.

Yes, the Brick Wall is our soul and heart, that's buried deep inside,
The only thing that can conquer it, is to let love be our guide.
