Poem about Teen Life

I was in a long-distance relationship for a while. In the last few weeks before it ended, things were pretty bad. When he broke up with me, I saw it coming. Instead of grieving, I felt numb inside and I wrote this poem to help me recover. I still miss him and this still rings true, but things change.

What Time Can Do

©

Published by Family Friend Poems August 2016 with permission of the Author.

Time can do amazing things.
It turns princes into kings.
It is needed for grass to grow.
It can help forgive a foe.
It will aid the bandaged wound.
It gives hope to the doomed.
But one thing time just cannot manage
Is turn the past to your advantage.

Time is what makes kids grow up.
It ticks away so bombs blow up.
It drives your life as it goes by,
Can separate friends close by.
It decides if you are late.
It is what can make you wait.
But one thing time just cannot alter
Is every moment when you falter.

Time brings sound to every ocean.
It mellows out all emotion,
Contains the start and end of life.
It races through every strife.
It changes people, thoughts, and minds.
By looking backwards, it reminds,
But one thing time just cannot do
Is give me one more chance with you.
