  1. 21. My Wish For This Christmas

Christmas is supposed to be a happy time, but when you lose someone (or in my case, more than one), Christmas just doesn't feel the same. The grief you feel especially around Christmas can suck the joy right out of you. This poem is for people who may be feeling this way, and I just wanted to send a little Christmas wish to all of you. May you find peace and joy again around Christmas time.

Christmas is a happy time for friends and family,
The children are excited as they unwrap presents around the tree.

Carols are sung and lights twinkle in the night.

  2. 22. This Christmas

    • By Mary Denise Lyons
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 19, 2022

My father passed away in June and this will be our first Christmas without him.
I was sitting in a café with Christmas music and twinkling lights when it hit me - the difference between this Christmas and last Christmas, his things have changed forever. I took my notebook out of my bag and wrote this poem.

    The golden lights are twinkling
    With Christmas in the air;
    Bing Crosby sweetly singing,
    And snowflakes in my hair.

  3. 23. First Christmas Without You

This Christmas was the first since my dad has been gone, and it was really hard getting through the holidays without him.

The nights are long and cold; the sun is hardly around.
Christmas time is approaching, and snow will soon cover the ground.
Trees and lights are twinkling; stockings are being hung.
The Christmas spirit is all around as carols are being sung.

  4. 24. A Visit From Santa

    • By Mike Dahlmeier
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2010

I published my first poem in 1965 when I was in the sixth grade. It was titled "Casey on the Gridiron," and was published in Reader's Magazine, a national school magazine. Since then, I have written hundreds of poems - primarily for family, friends - and the occasional school/college assignments. Most have been humorous and a few serious. All have been well received. While my job today is extremely technical and demanding, I still enjoy writing poetry - along with an occasional technical book.

'Twas the week before Christmas and without fail
we still did not have our cards in the mail.
Our Christmas letter was blank, not even a line.
The address book lost (as it was most of the time).

  5. 25. Another Christmas

    • By Spalvaspagaisu
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2017

For the person who taught me to love the little things about life.

    Lying down on the ground
    In the cold, fluffy snow
Forcing angels to stay on the earth
I was afraid to be left alone

  6. 26. December 23rd

I am a typical mother, wife, aunt, daughter, sister, and I can only share from my very own experiences in life the things that are special to me. I hope to touch the heart of another human soul. This particular poem is about the nearing Christmas season. Christmas can be a very joyous time but also a very sad time of year for so many. I think that many people will relate to my feelings in this poem.

Today, December 23rd, another Christmas nears.
I try to keep tradition up while holding back my tears.

I know I have been blessed for all the many years

  7. 27. Three Empty Chairs

Christmas is our family time, a beautiful day for all the family. Lots of noise, giggles, cooking, and games. Then we became less over these last years, and the Christmases that once held sparkle have now lost their shine. We have lost the ones we loved, and the chairs are now empty. Such loss can be so hard...

There are now three empty chairs at the Christmas table.
It's a time I find difficult, even unable

To find joy on this family day.

  8. 28. 'Twas The Week Before Christmas

    • By Arianna Rees
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2020

I'm a mental health counselor and life coach. After my own many years of holiday burnout, I finally started to practice self-care during the holidays, and it completely changed my life! I woke up at 5 a.m. a year ago and had this poem flow out of my brain. The need to be mindful of our energy and intentions, especially this year with so many exhausted from the constant mental and emotional drains, makes this poem even more appropriate!

'Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was hurrying, not even the mouse.
The festivities have been chosen with intention and care,
So that even this mama could get out for some air.

  10. 30. Baby, I Miss You Most At Christmastime

    • By Frankie J. Rivera
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2014

This poem about missing the one I love most at Christmastime when the memories are the strongest. Hi, my name is Frankie, and I am 40 years old. I actually wrote this poem in 1993 when I was at home during Christmas break during University and I was missing a friend of mine. I can remember just how cold it was that year- the icicles were falling off the roof of the house into the snow and the lights on the tree were glowing. Inside, I was just watching TV and drinking hot chocolate and decided it would make me feel better to write my feelings down on paper, and that way it would be out.

    Driftin' on a dream...

Sitting here, I gaze out the window,
    Fading away...

  11. 31. It's The Most Fattening Time Of The Year

My mom loved the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." She played it every Christmas, without fail - until we all got sick of it. But here's a fun version of it to sing - and if you get a karaoke track for it, perform it with props, friends, and fun, and post it online...well, I think everyone could get a good laugh out of it. Enjoy! Merry Christmas!

(sung to the tune of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year") - with apologies to Andy Williams

It's the most fattening time of the year
There'll be pizza and dim sum, oh yes, please, I'll have some

  13. 33. Santa's Lazy Elf

A special poem for all ages that teaches us we all must do our part. If everyone always did their best, the world would be a better place.

    Five more days till Christmas.
    Santa and his crew
    were working overtime making
    children's dreams come true.

  14. 34. Listening For Santa

Remember as a child when you were scared to be awake in the night on Christmas Eve? I thought I heard Santa one time, then Mom bent down and kissed my forehead. I'm sure she noticed my tightly squeezed eyes when she moved the blankets off my head.

    A squeak on the stairs.
    Could Santa be here?
    Better pull my blankets
    Up to my ears.

  15. 35. The Joy Of Christmas

My poem is about the special feeling of Christmas and what it means to me. This is my first poem ever written on paper.

    Christmas is a loving hug
Or roasting chestnuts on the rug.
    Christmas is one's first snow
And wrapping presents up with bows.

  16. 36. A Child Is Born

Christmas is a joyous occasion to be celebrated to its fullest. The humble birth of a tiny baby destined to change the world.

    To praise His holy name
    A nativity scene began
The scene we've come to claim

  18. 38. Lullaby

I began writing this poem one Christmas Eve while celebrating alone, inspired by the Mary and the first Christmas.

I shall wrap myself in a blanket of Christmas
Where all is hushed and still,
Save for the tiny sound of a baby's breath
Born to bring peace and goodwill.

  19. 39. What Christmas Is About

This was written to give insight to the real meaning of Christmas so it will be celebrated with praise and thanksgiving. Believers are to have a different perspective on Christmas. It's not just a holiday but a spiritual celebration.

    The prophets announced Christ's birth
that He would one day come to earth.
He was sent by the Father to pay a price,
and He became the living sacrifice.

  20. 40. A Christmas Poem

    • By Mike Kimes
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2014

I wrote this as part of a set of poems--the other one being the total flip-side to this one. Nothing says Christmas to me more than the kids running from store to store at the mall, all wide-eyed and hopeful as they touch every toy they have an interest in. That and good friends are what the holidays are all about to me.

October's old witches and goblins have gone
The turkey and stuffing are done
The wind brings a chill as December arrives
The tree lights all twinkle as one
