Robb Elementary School is reeling
From the violence they've endured
So many lives were taken
Evil opens up its door
Poems about current events are relevant to our particular lifestyles. Some may choose to write about suffering and injustices that are occurring in the world and others may write about politics. Taking an interest in the world around you is a way of showing that you care about the other living things that inhabit the world together with us. Sometimes it is hard to get a handle on what is truly happening in the news. With the advent of the internet and social media, we have many sources to tap into in order to get an accurate picture. It is our responsibility to ensure our sources are reliable.

When foreign people search the world
to find a place to live,
so many choose America.
We have so much to give.
This is good. Keep writing more beautiful poems.

What will you remember
of the days we could not play?
When things were very different
from just the other day.
I awoke to a pestilence, a pandemic across the nations,
Feeling anxiety, fear, and seeing massive condemnation,
Thinking, pondering, how could anyone thrive?
The light shaded my home
in the eeriest of yellow,
as if sunset, forced too early,
cried and bellowed.

I just want to be a good friend.
I'm not here to start a new trend.
I know I'm not the perfect fit.
I know I may irritate you a bit.
So true! I love how it is told from the mask's perspective! If I were a mask, I definitely would have those thoughts. These times are so difficult!!
-Raven Schewe, age 11
The month was September and the day was quite nice,
But this was to change on the shake of a dice.
Two planes with hundreds of people on board
Were about to crash, so they tried to get word
It's time to embrace every culture,
One flock, one shepherd, one fold
Whatever our race, hue or faith
We're all made from the same mould.
Coughs, colds, viruses and flu,
Bugs everywhere for me and you.
To catch us out in wind and rain,
Illness is here once again.
