Brother Poem

My brother and I have been through a lot together. A few years ago, he moved to Florida, and I miss him terribly. I just want him to know that he means so much to me.

My Brother Is Always By My Side

"If there wasn't anything, there wouldn't be anything," my brother said to me.
Such a deep thought for a young boy.
It sounds pretty simple, but it is very complicated.
You see...if there wasn't a brother, I wouldn't be sister.
Part of who I am is because of my brother.
When I felt weak, like I couldn't face something, he always shined the light on my strengths.
He helped me to see that I am a strong, smart, and courageous woman.
When I felt sad, he would say something hilarious and make me laugh.
He helped me to see sadness is a part of life, but you don't have to dwell on it.
When I did not want to face something, he held my hand.
He showed me that sometimes you need a united front.
We came from the same seed, but are unique...each holds something special.
We complement each other...always have, always will.
Just like salt and pepper, each has their own unique taste,
but you always see them together...
Because that is how it is supposed to be.

Some 50 plus years ago I read a poem about a young girl's view on brothers, both younger brothers and older brothers I would like to pass on the original text to my daughter who has one daughter sandwiched in between one older and one younger brother. The writer of the poem describes a younger brother as a pest, always snooping through my private things...but he is useful for making runs to the "candy store." She then describes an older brother as an unbearable tease, bossy, etc. etc...but the older brother "brings home shambling, beautiful, gruff young men." Does this phrase ring any bells of recognition?

My little brother was 11 months younger than me. My almost twin, I called him. In 2014 he was hit by an oilfield dump truck. That day he took a piece of me with him. My brother always told me that I was strong. That I'm the back bone. He would say, "If you could have seen what other people see." He was 29, had 2 properties with houses paid for, and worked 2 jobs. He had a level head on his shoulders. He was my best friend for 29 years. I never knew life without him until the accident. If not for God's grace, I would be lost.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have a similar situation, but it was my dad. He died when I was 3 in a car crash.

My brother and I have been through so much and I just want him to know that he means so much to me!

My brother, and most of all best friend,

There have been times where you have pushed my buttons and I have pushed yours. But there is nothing more that a little brotherly love can't over come. When mom passed we may have gotten distant but we are now inseparable. Anyone can try but they will never get between us. It's you and me and we can accomplish what ever comes our way! Just remember don't lead me I will wonder off board, don't follow me I will get us lost. Stand beside me and let's cause trouble together!

I love you Bubby!
