William Butler Yeats was an Irish poet who lived from 1865-1936. He started out studying painting, but he found his true passion in poetry. In 1923, he received the Nobel Prize for Literature. In this poem, he writes of a girl who broke his heart to please her mother, but he knows she still loves him.
