Father's Day Poems

Poems Celebrating Dad and Father's Day

Father's Day is not as respected and popularly observed as Mother's Day. There is a simple reason for this. Although almost everyone has difficult issues with their mothers, there is no doubt as to their mother's love. The same is not true for fathers. Because men have a more difficult time expressing their feelings to their children, many children go through life with the mistaken notion that their fathers don't love them. This is a tragedy because fathers generally love their children dearly and often work long hours so that they can raise their children in comfort.

  1. 1. I Am His Princess

    • By Shruti Singh
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 19, 2022

I am Shruti Singh,15 years old, and this is my 15th poem of 40 lines dedicated to my 40-year-old father, my King whom I am a princess of! This poem has feelings wrapped in a page of words. It will make you feel how much your father loves you, and it gives you a glimpse of the deepest, purest, and loveliest relation between a father and a daughter.

A Daughter's Tribute To Her Father

    I have my own castle,
    full of love and laughter!
The builder of my castle is a strong MAN
Who loves me first and himself after.

In these 15 years of life
He has never denied my wish.
    Always makes sure
My matching footwear with my dress never miss.

He is the richest in the world!
    Richest in love and care.
The one I will always trust
Is only papa-- always true and fair.

Bound by his love and trust,
    I am maturing.
    He makes every moment magic
By his true love and caring!

    However I may look,
    Short or weak or pale,
People might make fun of me,
But he always loves me the same.

    Sometimes I do wonder,
How can a man be so selfless?
But then the answer comes in my heart-
He is a father, with a heart most tender.

His life is full of sacrifice and tension,
A schedule of hard work and struggle.
Still, he never lets us know
Just to see our smiles and giggles!

    No matter if others
    Trust me or not,
    His blind support is enough
To make me an energy bot.

    This Father's Day,
Thought to gift him a bundle of words.
    To the world's best father,
This is the tribute I pay!

  3. 2. My Father's Words

My father is a very good man and I wanted to express this in a poem.

    A Father's Way With Words

My father is a man of his word
A man interested in your word

    A man of many words
    A man of few words

    A man of encouraging words
    A man of truthful words

    A man of motivational words
    A man of calming words

    A man of loving words
    A man of instructional words

A man of humorous, witty words
A man of firm, gritty words

    A man of forgiving words
    A man of imperfect words

A man who models God's Word
My father, I appreciate his every word

  5. 3. Dad, What's It Like In Heaven?

I wrote this poem for my Dad in honor of Father's Day.

    Father's Day In Heaven

    If time exists in heaven,
Do you still rise with the sun?
Do you and Mom share breakfast
    Before your day has begun?

Can the heavens hear your laughter
    As you sit and reminisce
About the time we had together
And other people that you miss?

And Daddy, do you still take walks
    Along heaven's seas?
And when you gaze upon the surf,
Do you remember walks with me?

Are your standing with those brave young men
    Upon its perfect shores?
    Finally by their sides again,
    Your comrades from the war.

Do you gather with your family
    Beneath heaven's glow?
And gaze upon those mountains still
That once you called your home.

    Is music all around you,
All those songs you held so dear?
Do you and Mom still sing together,
The way you did when you were here?

Do you ever have long talks with God
    About those left behind?
Do you tell him all the stories
Of all our grand and treasured times?

I think that heaven must be grateful
To have you there each day,
    To bring your easy laughter
And your silly sense of play.

And I'm sure that God already knows
The special father you had been
And how I wish that you were here
    To guide my way again.

But I carry you inside my heart.
You are never far from me.
I see you in my smile
And in who I grew to be.

And I'm sure that on this Father's Day
    God will help you celebrate
All those dads who changed the world with love.
What a party that will make!

  6. 4. Open Arms

    • By Nicole R. Melson
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2019

Just a bit about my dad and me. I have two sisters, and my parents are divorced. I see my father as often as I can, but I never see my mother; she now lives in another state, but she used to live only hours away and could have visited me. But she only visited my sisters who were in a completely different state. Anyway, I do have a step-mother who is awesome. My dad is my rock, and since it is Father's Day soon, I wrote this poem.

    My Father And Me

You're the one with open arms
    When the darkness closes in.
When the shadows come and the nightmares make it hard to sleep,
You're always there to chase them all away.
You were there with every skinned knee and every time I cried.
When I messed up, you were there to show me what I did wrong.
When you went to work in your big truck,
I waited patiently at the window for my daddy to arrive.
As I got older and wanted different things,
The one thing that never changed
Was running into my daddy's arms.

Although the love of a father may not always be obvious, it is always there behind you, watching over you as you grow. This concrete poem or shape poem is dedicated to my father who isn't here by my side every day, but he gives me unconditional support all the time. Whenever I need him, he always there, ready to hear out my problems.

  8. 6. To My Husband On Father's Day

I wanted to wish my husband a Happy Father's Day, but being he is not my father, I thought he should have a special recognition from me anyway.

I can't call you my Father,
And you're certainly not my Pop.
    I wouldn't call you PaPa
Because to me you're certainly not.
I can't call you my Pappy,
Nor could I call you Dad.
    You're definitely not my Daddy.
One of these I already have,
But I can call you Honey.
My best friend I have in you.
    A loving caring husband,
A gent who's kind and true,
My guy of tender gentle words
    You place within my heart.
The one who's strong and steady
And has been from the start,
    A man that's more appreciated
More than I can ever say.
I'm saying this to wish you
    A special Father's Day!

  9. 7. Fatherhood Is God's Idea

Acknowledging the important role man was given and how valuable they are to their families and to the kingdom of God.

    Honoring Fatherhood

Thanks be unto God the Father
for His great work in creating man.
    God decided to reproduce Himself,
So He formed man with His hand.

God crowned man with His glory
and gave him dominion over the earth.
He made man a little lower than the angels
and honored him with great worth.

    God endowed man with wisdom
so great things he would be able to do.
He made him in the likeness of Himself
so man could become a father too.

Creating man was God's best work.
He gave him authority and great might
to provide for the needs of his family
and courage to face the darkest night.

We honor God for His creation
and for making man His masterpiece.
He is to be an extension of Christ Jesus
so God's kingdom work will not cease.

    So we salute fatherhood everywhere.
It is the highest position in the land.
It's no greater honor than being called dad
and no greater foundation on which to stand.

Generally, mother's love is appreciated by one and all. In view of the forthcoming Father's Day I have jotted down my feelings for my father.

Your and mommy's love together had resulted into me
All your traits are reflecting in my body if you carefully see
Had you not supported throughout life would be nightmare
No one in this world will give you a father like care
You always wanted me to get better success and health
For that you were ever ready to dole out your full wealth
My pain was your pain and laughter was your laughter
I promise when you will need me most I'll also look after.

    Father's Day Acrostic Poem

Fathers are fun - and serious too!
And you learn more from them than you do at school.
Think of all the good times you've had.
How would it be without your dad?
Everything would be harder with no mentor for growth.
Reflect on the man who loves you the most.
Soon will come the day for you to fill his shoes.

Do you think your dad would accept an excuse?
Always try your best, that's what he would say.
Yes, think of your dad on this Father's Day!

  12. 10. My Father, My Friend

My dad is my hero. He has been my mentor and inspiration throughout my life. He celebrated his 75th birthday in 2009. Not having any idea what to give him, I decided what I wanted to do was tell him what he means to me, so I got out my pen and paper and started writing, and the end result became "My Father, My Friend."

    Appreciation For Dad

    For my father, my friend,
This to me you have always been.
Through the good times and the bad,
    Your understanding I have had.
    A gentle man at heart,
    This sets you apart
    From the others I've seen.
You mean so much to me.
    The laughter we have shared
    Cannot be compared.
    The tears I have shed,
As you lovingly nodded your head.
    You have always been there,
With a smile and a hug,
A precious gift from our God up above.
The times that I have been down and sad,
Your silly ways could always make me glad.
You gave me strength to carry on,
Even when all hope seemed to be gone.
The lessons in life that I have learned
Are from your genuine love and concern.
With deep appreciation for all you have done.
    You, Dad,
    Are my number one.
With all my love, Your Daughter, Your Friend

    Loving Father Poem From Daughter

If I could write a story,
It would be the greatest ever told.
    I'd write about my daddy,
For he had a heart of gold.
My dad, he was no hero
    Known around this world.
    He was everything to me,
For I was his baby girl.
    I'd write about the lessons.
He taught me right from wrong.
He instilled in me the values
That one day I'd be strong.
He taught me to face my fears,
Take each day as it comes,
For there are things that we can't change.
He would say what's done is done.
He would say hold your head up high,
    Carry yourself with pride.
Thanks to him, I am somebody,
I will never run and hide.
If I could write a story,

  15. 13. My Father's Love

    • By Wendy Nichols
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2014

I wrote this poem for my father who is the light of my life. He's a single dad who has raised me and now raises my little sister, and I hope that one day she will have this to remember him by. It describes how a father should be, how he has stood beside me through my troubles and continues to this day. I'm sure a lot of you will be able to relate to this poem with your own fathers and maybe it will make some think of their dad and know to cherish every moment because every moment counts.

Father's Day Poem To A Single Dad From His Daughter

My father's love never places judgment on me,
his love comes unconditional and unselfishly.

For all the things you've done to show how much you care,
always remains as a reminder that you will always be there.

I'll never forget the affection you have shown in so many ways,
faithful to me, as a father you have never missed a day.

The way you look at me with that twinkle in your eye,
no matter my situation lets me know I'll be alright.

You have taught me the difference between right and wrong,
and as I became a woman, you taught me to be strong.

I'll always be grateful for you being there through my struggles and my strife,
because of your encouragement, you taught me the meaning of life.

Now you raise my little sister who is so close to your heart,
another little girl from whom her father she can't stand to part.

As she's just a baby now I watch you teach her as she grows,
and I sit back and I smile because one day she will know,

This special man who she calls dad is the one person who will be there when she's happy or she's sad.

When she is grown there will be no doubt in her mind,
of the father she loved who never left her behind.

Each day as you look in the mirror, I pray that you see,
there is no one in the world who will ever mean more to my sister and me.

I wrote this poem for my dad for Father's Day 2010. Everything is heartfelt and came from me, and I meant every word towards my dad.

    Father's Day Poem From Child

When I wake in my sleep
You are there to comfort me
    With mommy by your side
    ...To help me breathe

    You help with so much
    And sacrifice yourself
    To help us get better
    And teach us to succeed
    To not be afraid
    Give strength to believe

    Happy Father's Day
    You deserve to be praised
    Remember you're a father
    And ability is your thing
In my eyes, a father can do anything

    Happy Father's Day
    You deserve to be praised
    A father is always there
    To protect and save
    Happy Father's Day

    You're my hero
    And my base
My life would be forever changed
    If you weren't here

    Inch by inch I've grown
And grew up to be so mature
    But I wouldn't be here
    If the courage wasn't you

    Happy Father's Day

    • By C Schaefer
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2014

My father is not full of bravado. He has quiet strength. This is not about me but about him and this is what I wrote in his Father's Day Card for 2013.

Poem For A Father's Day Card

    Burdens carried with strength unsung
Laboring at labor until the labor is done
    Persistence unyielding
    Protection and shielding
These are the gifts of my father

    Listening, absorbing
    Cautioning, uplifting
    Strong and steady
    With faith at the ready
These too are the gifts of my father

    Figuratively you hold the ladder
    While I climb
    Holding me steady with investment
    Of wisdom and time

I want to say thank you for the role model you've been
And tell you with joyful heart
"You are a gift to me, Father."

This is a poem I wrote for my fiancé', for her to give to her Dad for father's day.

    Father's Day Poems From Daughter

A daddy is a special man
    In which all things abound
    Showing care and passion
    And love to all around

I shall treasure all the sleepless nights
    And sacrifices made
    All because you loved me
Through the problems that I gave

    Doing little special things
    Memories
    All for me
Your eyes they tell the story
    When you speak of me

Your hands that once were strong and firm
    Now softened with the age
    But you're still my daddy
    And never would I trade

    Smiles and hugs and kisses
As I sat there on your knee
    From childhood to the woman
    Who before you
    Now you see

I have locked away those precious times
    They are mine
    For me to see
I keep them all within my heart
    Take them everywhere with me

    My love for you
    Is just as strong
As the one when I was three
And I know this kind of special bond
Was meant for you and me

I hope that you will see it now
You're in my thoughts each day
I'm so glad you are my daddy

    And happy Father's Day

  19. 17. What Is A Dad?

I wrote this poem for a friend for Father's Day. He is not only a friend to me and my son but took on the role of his father as well. He has gone above and beyond for my son and deserves all the credit of being his "father" and for making my son a better man.

Father's Day Poem For An Adopted Dad

A Dad is patient, helpful, and strong
He is there by your side when things go wrong
He's someone who guides you to do the right thing
And helps you solve problems that life sometimes brings

A Dad is someone who is loving and kind
And usually knows what's going on in your mind
He is someone who listens and makes time to talk
When things are bad he doesn't turn around and walk

He is a strong shoulder when times are tough
And still loves you dearly when he's had enough
He helps you and guides you all that he can,
Wanting nothing more than to make you a man

A Dad's there when you're happy and even more when you're sad
Giving unconditional love whether you're good or you're bad
A Dad is someone that you can also call a friend
Who is there no matter what and will be till the end

They say that blood is thicker than water
But I know this isn't true
Because my son couldn't ask for a better Dad
Than one he has found in you

I think of all the years gone by and wonder
    How different things would've been
If his real father put forth the love
That you have shown to him

    Happy "Father's" Day, Tommy
Thank you for showing my son what a real father is
And for loving him as much as you do. You will always

  20. 18. On This Father

I have never been more than a very casual "writer". Silly poems for family, rhymes to go on birthday invites....just "stuff". However, when I finished this one, I had a different surge of pride.

    From Husband To Daddy

Being a father to a son,
brings a man's heart so much joy.
    You can't imagine your world,
    without this wonderful little boy.

Our son has grown so much,
there's no trace of "baby" in his smile.
But the work has just begun, Dad,
    time to readjust the dial.

    Wrestling in the living room
makes him feel big and strong.
    Giving him the confidence to make decisions;
    hopefully right, sometimes wrong.

    From sporting events to his first car;
to dating and a family of his own.
You are the one he will turn to,
The best man he's ever known.

He will watch your every move,
    so guide him the best you can;
Cause only a Daddy can teach his son
    how to become a man.

    I prayed no other woman
    would come along and steal your heart;
but from the moment we heard, "it's a girl"
I knew she would have you from the start.

A little girl needs her Daddy
to love her with gentlemanly charm.
    To hold her tightly when she is afraid;
and keep her safe from harm.

    From pigtails and bubblegum,
    to lipstick and high heels;
Help her mend a broken heart,
teach her that true love is real.

Dance with her in the living room,
    just to see her twirl.
Know there is no love that equals that of
    Daddy's Little Girl.

She will grow to be a woman,
    with irresistible charm and grace;
But right now take each special moment
    and treasure her sweet face.

I stood and made a promise
    to love you come what may;
and watching you turn from husband to Daddy,
makes that love grow more each day!

I wrote this poem for my husband because he is the best husband and father in the world. He is dedicated to his family and works hard for us. He shows his love and support to us each and every day; he also makes himself readily available to us.

James Anthony Rice, this one is dedicated to you! I love you, honey!

Father's Day Poem For Husband From Wife

You've been in our lives for so many seasons.
I'm pouring my heart out for that very reason.
I've given you life, my husband and friend.
Our love affair shall never end,
And though our love has been through the fire,
You and only you are my true heart's desire.
I pray for the man that is paving the way
For our children each and every day.
    A man who is...
    FEARLESS
    A man who is...
    ADMIRABLE, TRUSTWORTHY,
    HEROIC, EXCEPTIONALLY RELIABLE.
It's no wonder why God's on your side.
He gave you the strength to father a child,
And even when we don't know what to say,
Your wisdom consistently saves the day.
I opened my heart to you, simply to say...
YOU'RE THE BEST HUSBAND AND DAD

    HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

  22. 20. You're My Best Friend

I went through cancer at 10, and my dad was always there for me. He is my best friend, so I wrote this for him.

    A Poem For Dad

    You're more than a dad
    But a kind, loving man

    You showed me the ways
    In which I stand

You taught me good from bad
And all there is to know

    I love you so much,
    And your gentleness shows

You care for me and love me so much
You watch over me with your gentle touch

    You make me feel special
With all the love you show

Thank you, dad, for being there for me
    Through the rough and so

    You're not only my dad
But a best friend, it's true

For I love you so much
And this is from me to you
