Let Them Win

There she sat,
In deep pain, with the razor hardly making contact with her skin.
She pulled the small blade along her wrist, pressing harder as it went in.
The nights final outcome, dozens of tiny slits perfectly in line.
Weeks later she had become stronger, a change far from mine.
By now, the small scars have already started to fade.
Today was a rough day, almost in need, of the blade.
Making a deep connection with the small silver terror,
She picked up the blade and continued to observe it, about to make an error.
She could hear the fading scars on her wrist calling out to her.
Unsteadily she listened, but she was still very unsure,
"Make us deeper, make us longer, and dear, make us last.
You wouldn't want your only friends to be just the past."
About to make another mistake,
She froze and quickly thought,
I couldn't bear to let them win, after how hard I've fought.
