Waiting Poems - On The Difficulty Of Waiting
  • Published: December 2017

Waiting Poems

Waiting Poems

One famous historical book says, "expectation postponed is making the heart sick". Those wise words have proven true time and again for many. Many people wait their whole lives for things that are difficult to come across, like true love or exceptional secular opportunities.

Unfortunately, some things, like finding a soulmate, do not necessarily happen when one would like. Often, the wait can become frustrating, causing sadness, anger and other negative feelings.

One way to combat such feelings is to read the poetry of others who have experienced similar emotions.

Positive Mother-Child Relationships Poems

Positive Mother-Child Relationships Poems

What is love? In Hebrew, the language of the Bible, the word for love is ahava which shares the same root as hav to give. The effort that mothers put in to parenting their children causes wellsprings of love to spring forth from their hearts. The more we give to our children, the more love we will feel for them. We would do well to remember that all loving relationships whether platonic, romantic, or with family members must have giving at its center for the relationship to flourish.

Poems About Fatherly Love

Poems About Fatherly Love

Many men will agree that being a father is the most rewarding relationship that they have. Children begin by loving their fathers unconditionally. It is a clean slate. There is nothing the father has to do to earn his child's love. The difficult part is not losing it. As the child goes out into the world, he will see all kinds of men whom he will look to as models as well. It is crucial that his father stay active in his life and help him make intelligent decisions. A boy without a father will look elsewhere to fill his father's shoes.

Poems About Having An Eating Disorder

Eating Disorder Poems

Eating Disorder Poems

We are all bombarded with messages about how we should look and how much we should weigh. Many people struggle with eating disorder tendencies. For some people, they binge and purge. Others significantly restrict their consumption of food and over-exercise. It’s all in pursuit of the “perfect” body. What can begin as a desire to be healthier can quickly turn into a paralyzing obsession. It feels as though the number on the scale is never good enough. The figure seen in the mirror is severely distorted in the mind of someone with an eating disorder. As with any other mental illness, it’s important to seek help from professionals who are trained to bring healing and restoration.

Every year, National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is held during the last week in February. It's a time to raise awareness about these disorders and offer resources and support to those who are facing these struggles. If you would like to know more about eating disorders, use a screening tool for yourself or a loved one, or find out how to get the necessary help, check out National Eating Disorders Association.

Poems With Symbolism - Symbolism In Poetry
  • Published: July 2018

Poetic Technique Of Symbolism

Poetic Technique Of Symbolism

Symbolism is a poetic technique that utilizes objects, people, or situations to represent a larger idea or concept beyond its literal meaning. It is a way for poets to create layers of meaning in their work and convey a deeper message to their audience.

Symbolism can take many forms, including metaphor, simile, and allegory. Poets use symbolism to create layers of meaning in their work and to convey complex ideas and emotions.

Some common examples of symbolism include

  • red rose to represent love or passion,
  • broken mirror to symbolize bad luck or a broken relationship,
  • butterfly to represent transformation or rebirth,
  • rainbow represents hope,
  • withering leaf stands for aging
  • dove with an olive branch is a symbol of peace.
By using symbolism, writers can add depth and richness to their work and engage readers on a deeper emotional and intellectual level.
