13 Short Christmas Poems

  1. 1. From Us To You

Thinking of my family and friends this Christmas and hoping the season brings joy to everyone.

    in Christmas Poems

    It's Christmas time,
    And I wish you well.
    May the Lord bless you
    With the best of health.

I hope the stockings are hung
    And you're filled with wonder.
    There are so many surprises
    For you to ponder.

    May your children be merry
    When Santa brings toys.
    Some for the girls
    And some for the boys.

    I pray you have food
    And plenty to eat:
    Turkey and gravy
    And lots of sweets.

    I hope your family's there,
    Friends and neighbors, too.
    So merry Christmas
From all of us to all of you.

Hits home! It's perfect, not to long and straight to the point. I could see this in a Christmas card.

  2. 2. Listening For Santa

    • By Annabel Sheila
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2008 with permission of the Author.

Remember as a child when you were scared to be awake in the night on Christmas Eve? I thought I heard Santa one time, then Mom bent down and kissed my forehead. I'm sure she noticed my tightly squeezed eyes when she moved the blankets off my head.

    in Christmas Poems

    A squeak on the stairs.
    Could Santa be here?
    Better pull my blankets
    Up to my ears.

    He comes down the chimney,
    That's how he gets in.
    Santa uses magic
    To make himself thin.

    I better keep still,
    Can't make a peep.
    He doesn't leave toys,
    Unless you're asleep.

    My door just opened.
    Someone's by my bed.
    It wasn't Santa after all,
'Cause Mom just kissed my head.

  4. 3. The Joy Of Christmas

    • By Maddy R. Kohler
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2018 with permission of the Author.

My poem is about the special feeling of Christmas and what it means to me. This is my first poem ever written on paper.

    in Christmas Poems

    Christmas is a loving hug
Or roasting chestnuts on the rug.
    Christmas is one's first snow
And wrapping presents up with bows.
Christmas is sledding over the ice,
And giving presents feels so nice.
    Christmas is a friend.
I never want Christmas to end.

  5. 4. Another Christmas

    • By Spalvaspagaisu
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2017 with permission of the Author.

For the person who taught me to love the little things about life.

    in Christmas Poems

    Lying down on the ground
    In the cold, fluffy snow
Forcing angels to stay on the earth
I was afraid to be left alone

So I fell, I fell so deep
    Like snow that's falling again
    It's Christmas, it's Christmas again
But not for me, not without you

Tonight my heart was frozen cold
It was dark and soullessly true
Stars falling down as I made a wish
Hoping for you to catch me at once

So I fell, I fell so deep
    Like snow that's falling again
    It's Christmas, it's Christmas again
But not for me, not without you

  7. 5. Holidays

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an American poet who lived from 1807-1882. He experienced tragedy in his life with the unexpected death of two wives. In this poem, he shows that we all have special moments in our lives that we celebrate, and they become our own personal holidays. They are days to remember certain people or events that have impacted our lives. Longfellow uses similes in this poem to show the purity of those meaningful holidays.

    in Famous Holiday Poems

The holiest of all holidays are those
    Kept by ourselves in silence and apart;
The secret anniversaries of the heart,
When the full river of feeling overflows;--
    The happy days unclouded to their close;
The sudden joys that out of darkness start
As flames from ashes; swift desires that dart
Like swallows singing down each wind that blows!
White as the gleam of a receding sail,
White as a cloud that floats and fades in air,
White as the whitest lily on a stream,
These tender memories are;--a fairy tale
Of some enchanted land we know not where,
But lovely as a landscape in a dream.

  8. 6. Before The Ice Is In The Pools

Emily Dickinson was an American poet who lived from 1830-1886. The first volume of her poetry was not published until four years after her death. In this poem, it’s not clear what the speaker was waiting for, but some believe it could be Sue, Emily’s sister-in-law. They spent many years corresponding with each other but had moments of estrangement. Some believe this poem also has religious and spiritual references to touching to cloak of Jesus and crossing over to death. Or it could simply be about waiting for winter to arrive. This poem is composed of quatrains (four-line stanzas) that follow the ABCB rhyme scheme.

    in Famous Holiday Poems

Before the ice is in the pools—
    Before the skaters go,
    Or any check at nightfall
    Is tarnished by the snow—

    Before the fields have finished,
    Before the Christmas tree,
    Wonder upon wonder
    Will arrive to me!

What we touch the hems of
    On a summer's day—
    What is only walking
    Just a bridge away—

    That which sings so—speaks so—
    When there's no one here—
Will the frock I wept in
    Answer me to wear?

  9. 7. Christmas Wishes For You

    • By Sherry Asbury
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2018 with permission of the Author.

It simply states what the reader should find for this season of love and joy.

    in Christmas Poems

    May peace dwell with you,
    may prosperity huddle near.
    May family gather together
    without heartache or tear.

    There is a star shining
in the night sky ... just there.
It is for you to wish upon
to keep you safe from care.

    May everything you need
be yours to have and proclaim
as you're due; just close your eyes
and ask it in His precious name.

    Merry Christmas to you, friend.
Let your season be a blessed one
filled with love and cheer and more.
Smile, laugh, and enjoy the fun.

  10. 8. Christmas Day

    • By John P. Read
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2018 with permission of the Author.

It seems children believe Christmas is more about Santa than Jesus.

    in Christmas Poems

    Across a white December night,
Each home is filled with candle light.
The moon shines brightly in a golden sky.
Stars are twinkling way up high.

The cool, still air, a glistening frost,
    Smoking chimneys on white rooftops.
    The Christmas tree, the mistletoe,
Christmas carols, our loved ones at home.

Christmas is a time for merriment and cheer.
It's also a time to thank God we're here.
So when we wake on a bright Christmas morn,
    Remember the reason we celebrate.
It's the day our Saviour was born.

  11. 9. Christmas

    • By Kolton Myatt
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2015 with permission of the Author.

This story was created from my inspiration of each Christmas day and the memories made.

    in Christmas Poems

    It is seven a.m.,
    And the snow is falling
    As I look outside
    At the carolers calling.

    I wake up my parents
    And rush to the tree
To find a room full of presents
    Just for me.

    The hot chocolate is stirring,
And the food is being made
As we head to my grandma's
    To visit and stay.

As I see my family gathered
    And laughing away,
    I think to myself,
    How I love Christmas Day.

  12. 10. Christmas In My Eyes

    • By Ella Phillips
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2018 with permission of the Author.

Christmas for me is a time filled with love and joy and family. It celebrates a historical event that forever changed the world as we know it: the birth of Jesus. This time is special because I get to reflect on the year and everything God has done for me. I get to spend time with my friends and family. That's why I love Christmas.

    in Christmas Poems

    People saying, "Ho, Ho, Ho"
    Lovers kissing under the mistletoe
    Children playing in the snow

    Families making homemade treats
Teens with fuzzy socks on their feet
Dogs and cats sitting by the fire heat

Shoppers looking for the best gift
Employees working on their last shift
Students getting home before the snow drifts

    Choirs singing, "Noel, Noel, Noel!"
    Volunteers ringing little bells
    Candles with winter smells

    Reindeer flying through the skies
Everyone waking up to a surprise
That's what Christmas is in my eyes

  13. 11. Santa's Gift

    • By Elaine P. Keefe
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2018 with permission of the Author.

Christmas is a magical time of year, a time when anything seems possible and we rise above petty differences and unimportant spats to wish the best for people everywhere. Santa Claus is the embodiment of the spirit that encompasses us during this season of happiness and good will. There are those, of course, who find no joy in Christmas, but perhaps with Santa's help, there is hope for them too.

    in Christmas Poems

    The laughter of eternity's children
Resides in the glint of his eyes,
And his joyous laugh, which surrounds us all,
Leaves an echo that never dies.

The good will he sows so generously
Wraps us warmly in blankets of cheer,
And the words that he speaks bring great hope and joy
To small angels far and near.

To see a child's hopeful excitement
As he rests upon Santa's knee
Or the look of wonder on her face
When she encounters the magical tree

    Overwhelms my heart with tenderness
And brings me lightness of mind.
Santa is here to spread his gift
    Of peace to all mankind.

  14. 12. Wishes

Wishing my family the best for the Christmas and giving Christmas wishes.

    in Christmas Poems

The orange glow of the fireplace
fills the room with Christmas cheer.
To my family I raise my glass,
full of wishes for the year.

  15. 13. Christmas Feelings

    • By Maria Carrion
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2014 with permission of the Author.

It is meant to inspire you. My name is Maria. I am 12 years old and this poem is my first poem, and Christmas inspired me.

    in Christmas Poems

    That cheerful feeling
    In the air
    With a bit of love
    All around

The food is on the table
And the presents under the tree
    Dinner is ready
    So come on, let's eat

    Everyone is at the table
    Eating their Christmas meals
    Because it's the most
    Wonderful time of the year

    Look out your window
Thank God for letting it snow
It's the best time of the year
    To spend with family

    The night has passed
    And the day has come
    There are presents to open
    And more fun to come

    But it's not about presents
    It's not about food
    It's about family time
    That's Christmas time
