How could I be so stupid
To let you slip away?
I had you in my arms,
But I let you slip away.

I want you back,
But now it's too late.
I've already said goodbye,
And now love has turned to hate.

I want to go back in time
And fix all that was wrong,
Change all of my regrets
So we didn't fight as long.

The regrets are what messed it up,
And they were all my fault.
I was so immature;
I should have acted like an adult.

I broke my own heart
When I walked out on you.
Now it's too late,
And I can't undo.

I still love you,
But nobody knows
We are no longer together
Because of what I chose.

It was a bad decision,
And now I want you here.
Never far away,
Always near.

So please take me back,
And catch me when I fall

All came to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Sara Teasdale was an American poet born in Missouri on August 8, 1884. She had six collections of poetry published during her lifetime and one published posthumously.

Love's Coming

Ella Wheeler Wilcox was an American author and poet who lived from 1850-1919. Her goal was to write pieces that lifted people’s spirits. In this poem, she writes of the great expectation of falling in love--that it will be an earth shattering moment, but the girl she writes about finds that she has fallen in love with someone who has always been by her side and is considered a close friend. That love has stood the test of time. This poem is made up of quatrains, four-line stanzas, that have a rhyme scheme of ABCB. The structure is also very intentional. The first two lines of each stanza show what the speaker hopes for when it comes to love, and the second two lines of each stanza reveal her reality.

Crimson Rose

I wrote this when I was trapped inside by a storm. My friend had given me a rose just before I saw her for the last time, and this poem was more a reflection of how I felt her personality was at that moment: cold and dangerous over a mask of beauty and calm. And who's to say that roses aren't the same?

Goodbye, Grandfather

After 5 years of not seeing him, I went on holiday to Europe for a visit. I spent the next 3 months travelling daily to and from his hospital bed. At 12 years old, I helplessly watched my grandfather die of cancer.

What I wouldn't give to see his face

So I'll just smile and say it's fine

We never got to share a dance

In this poem, it’s not clear what the speaker was waiting for, but some believe it could be Sue, Emily’s sister-in-law. They spent many years corresponding with each other but had moments of estrangement. Some believe this poem also has religious and spiritual references to touching to cloak of Jesus and crossing over to death. Or it could simply be about waiting for winter to arrive. This poem is composed of quatrains (four-line stanzas) that follow the ABCB rhyme scheme.
