  1. 41. He Asked Me If I Missed Him

    • By Alfa Holden
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2020 with permission of the Author.

    in Betrayal Poems

    He asked me if
    I missed him
    and I told him
    no. Even though
    my heart called
    me a liar,
    I could not give
    the man who left
    and took everything,
    any more of me.
    Not my feelings,
    my memories,
    or my regrets.

  4. 43. She Makes Me Whole

    • By Blake Auden
    • Published by Family Friend Poems January 2021 with permission of the Author.

I've never thought of her as perfect. But she was the closest I've ever been to knowing what it means to belong. The truth is, I still don't know what love means, but when I hear the word, I think of her.

    in Short Love Poems

    I don’t think
    she is perfect.
    She is flawed and broken
    like the rest of us.
    But the pieces she has
    left of her heart
    match the pieces
    missing from mine.
    She is not perfect
    but she does
    make me whole.

  5. 44. A New Day

    • By S.C. Lourie
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2020 with permission of the Author.

    in Meaningful Poems

    One day it will
    dawn on you.
    You have always
    found a way to rise.
    You are already
    the miracle you seek.
    You are worthy of joy.
    You are worthy of peace.
    Yes, one day it will
    dawn on you just
    how precious your
    life is and that
    you are worth
    fighting for.

  7. 45. She Is Magic

    • By Caroline White
    • Published by Family Friend Poems October 1, 2021 with permission of the Author.

    in Courage Poems

    She wildly dances
to the beat of her own heart
    a strong and fearless protector,
    she’s hauntingly beautiful
    and dangerously smart.
    Eyes filled with oceans
    and a glimmer of pain,
but a soul with a compass
    that points home
    when it rains.
    She’s visited darkness
    and fought her way back
    this girl is a warrior,
    her spirit won’t crack.
A sense of humor to balance
    how deep her heart bleeds,
    she’s a radiant light,
    that this dark world needs.
She is poised and she’s polished
    but still can be rough,
she is one of a kind,
    she is more than enough.

    in Moving On Poems

    When you left,
I immediately deleted your number and pictures
and pulled our memories from the wall.
    This is my strength.
This is how I know I’ll survive.
I cried as I erased you,
    but I erased you anyway.
    I wished you back,
but I still opened my hands
    and let you go.

  10. 48. You

    • By Leo Christopher
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2020 with permission of the Author.

This short and sweet poem is about the search for true love and how it feels to finally find it. The poet describes their significant other as the one they've been searching for, the one they've been chasing after, and the one who has been the answer to all their hopes and dreams. The poem is a celebration of the deep connection between two people who have found each other and how they are now intimately connected.

    in Short Love Poems

    You are
    what I’ve been
    searching for,
    chasing after,
    longing to find,
    every star,
    moonbeam
    and dream,
    all of every thing
    so infinitely far away
    and yet so intimately
    here in my arms.

  11. 49. Choose How You Spend Your Time

    • By Blake Auden
    • Published by Family Friend Poems August 2020 with permission of the Author.

I spend an inordinate amount of time in front of an empty page, or a computer screen. In part, because I’m terrified of being forgotten, of living a life that isn’t worth remembering. So I’m constantly trying to leave something behind, be it poetry, fiction, art or music. While this makes me feel better about dying, there is a part of me that wonders how much I’m missing out on. That wonders about how I’m choosing to spend my time in the light. This poem is featured in my debut book Tell The Birds She’s Gone.

    in Short Poems

    You cannot
    slow the setting
    of the sun.
    You can only choose
    how to spend
    your time
    in the light.

    in Hope Poems

    It’s okay
    it’s okay
    no matter what
    comes your way
    even when you
    have no words to say
    and your bluebird skies
    turn shades of grey

    You are here
    you are breathing
    there is something
    to believe in

    Please don’t lose faith
    all will be okay

    • By Ian E. Rabbitt

    in Poems for Her

    I love the way
    she runs her fingers
    through my hair
    I love the way
    she kisses my lips
    without a care
    I love the way

    gently down my skin
    I love the way
    she holds my heart

    these stories we wear –

    scars,
    stretchmarks,
    wrinkles,

    are wrongly labelled
    as imperfections.

    but aren’t they such beautiful,
    courageous signs
    of how we have lived?

  16. 54. When You're Next To Me

    • By Blake Auden
    • Published by Family Friend Poems August 2020 with permission of the Author.

Whenever you were next to me, there was no rest of the world. There were no stars painting light to the darkness, no wind at our backs, no birdsong in the trees. To me, there was only ever you.
Even now, things slow down and pause when I think of you. There are still those little sections of lost time, where everything is drowned out by those unanswerable questions about what might have been.

    in Short Love Poems

    The world seems
    somehow slower
    when you are
    next to me.
    As though my senses
    cannot focus
    on anything
    but you.

  17. 55. She Loved Him

    • By Gemma Troy
    • Published by Family Friend Poems April 2021 with permission of the Author.

    in True Love Poems

    She loved him without reason
    and without cause
    she loved him under water
and in the freezing cold of the deep winter months
she loved him in the dark
    and beneath the starry sky
    she loved his hands
    and his innocent blue eyes
she loved his heart and how big it always seemed to be
she loved him even when things were a little stormy
she loved him before they knew each other’s name
and she will love him until
    she takes her last breath
and her heart goes up in flames

    • By Gemma Troy
    • Published by Family Friend Poems April 2021 with permission of the Author.

    Finding hope amidst adversity

    in Hope Poems

Hope can be found in the moment
when the sun breaks open the day
it can be felt when the stars shine
in the darkest part of the night
and when a flower has grown without rain
    hope is the thread
    that ties the words together
    when I write poetry
    hope is the reason
    you’ve survived
it lives between each heart beat
and it’s in the air you breathe

    • By Liz Newman
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2020 with permission of the Author.

You never know the state of someone’s heart. Aching hearts may not look broken, but you have no idea what’s gone into that healing. Be kind, always.

    in Short Sad Poems

We talk a lot about broken hearts.
    But oh,
    what about the aching ones?
    The hearts that are healing
but can’t escape the visits of the
    cold, sharp
    pain gripping their core.
    The hearts that appear
    whole again
    but still experience
    the waves of hurt
    crash against their soul’s door.
