I'm Sorry Family Poems

Poems Of Apology And Regret To Family

When you live in close proximity with other human beings there will be many times that you will offend each other. Families inevitably hurt each other from time to time. Saying "I'm sorry" are the two words that can repair your relationship. Without apologies the bad feelings are allowed to grow until eventually they grow into something so big and ugly that it is almost impossible to repair. It is difficult to humble ourselves and admit that that we may have made a mistake. However, when you think about the repercussions of not making a simple apology, you will realize that it's worth the effort.

10 Poems Of Apology And Regret To Family

  1. 1. Love At Last

    • By Peggy Liimatta
    • Published by Family Friend Poems April 2008 with permission of the Author.

I am a mother hurting and trying to regain my daughter's love. I wrote this poem from my heart and find poetry a very satisfying way to get my feelings out. This is the first poem I have ever really worked hard on and actually finished. Thanks for reading it.

    in Mother Daughter Poems

    I remember the good times
    that we once had...
    but still my life
    is oh...so sad

    I try to look forward,
    but my mind goes back...
because a piece of the glass
    on our portrait is cracked.

I try so hard to protect the glass.
    I won't let it shatter...
    Because you and your love
    are all that matters.

    My family is all
    that means anything to me.
    Still...everything always
    gets blamed on me.

    This happens to moms
    all over the world.
    We're supposed to be perfect;
    we learn this as girls.

    I have never been great
    or the "best of moms"...
    And at times I've failed
by the things I've done wrong.

For those things, I am sorry.
I didn't want you to cry...
    but please remember
    my eyes are not dry.

    I hope you can find
    our love that seems lost.
For the mistakes I have made
came at a very high cost.

    A piece of my life,
    is missing and gone.
    And everything feels
    Oh so wrong.

    But there is one thing
    that I can do.
I will try to be strong
    just for you.

    One thing I feel
    down deep in my heart.
    It's my love for you.
    I guess that's a start.

    You have a new son
    now growing inside.
And I hope that you feel
each of his kicks with pride.

    You will feel love
    like never before.
    It is your family
    you will completely adore.

    It's a new beginning.
    you will forget the past.
It completes you as a woman.
It will be "love at last."

  2. 2. Complicated Families

    • By JQ Downing
    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2006 with permission of the Author.

This poem is about some of the trauma and hurt families experience. If these are not dealt with, they can slowly erode a families closeness.

    in Anger Poems

So many tears shed in the dark of night,
hidden away in our private thoughts
only to be shelved with morning's first light.
Because of no courage to speak of the pain,
this part of our lives remains the same...

Mothers and Fathers, Sisters and Brothers
gather for holidays they hope will heal,
while gathered together sharing a meal,
what they bring, back from the past,
perhaps they'll be able to bed it, at last.

Years of analysis, a lifetime of good,
can be shattered with just one word,
    maybe a look, or gesture of scorn;
any of which destroys years of progress,
    all the good overturned.
At least that's what I'm told
    over and over again...

I sit by a letter, addressed to my sister,
no courage to post it, no guts to muster.
    I've written the things I needed to say;
will she get my meaning or stray away
into her own thoughts to calm her that day?
thoughts of comfort, truth not portrayed.

It must be nice to be the favored child of choice,
to not know the feelings of a life not rejoiced,
to know through life, whatever wrong you've done
    in the eyes of the parents, you'll remain number one;
to not know what it's like to give of your soul
for recognition that you will never, ever know...

  4. 3. My Daughter, My Friend

    • By Kristina Cyronek
    • Published by Family Friend Poems May 2013 with permission of the Author.

My daughter has become a teenager, and I can see every day how hard it is. We just had an argument. I want her to know how much I love her and that I know how she feels, but I just can't fix it. It's all part of growing up.

    in Growing Up Poems

I see the pain in your eyes and feeling like you do.
I wish I could take it all away and skip these years for you.

Being a teen is so very hard, it really isn't fair
To go through all of this and still feel like no one is there.

You don't have to tell me how you feel, I see it every day,
Like nothing you ever do is good enough, or you're just in the way.

If you could see through my eyes, how confident and true
You becoming a young woman, but still somewhat a youth.

I can't make this feeling go away, I can't fix all of your tears,
But I can tell you that I know the feelings and the fears.

If you ask me how I know all that you are going through,
I will answer simply, I know this all because... I have been there too.

    I LOVE YOU - Mom

  5. 4. More Than Life

    • By Mistique M. Hart
    • Published by Family Friend Poems January 8, 2022 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem to my daughters. I lost a very bitter custody battle, and the father of my daughters was able to convince them to not allow me visitation with them. And so for many years, he played a kind of yoyo game with me by going back and forth from denying me to allowing me to see them for a little while only to abruptly stop again.

    in Divorce Poems

    To my so sweet babies,
    Who suffer through this most,
    I am so very sorry
You must read this in a post.

If only I could hold you
When your time of need is great.
I hope one day you'll know,
And for me you won't feel hate.

I wish that I could take away
All the tears you've cried for me.
I would give up the world
To keep you from pain, you see.

    I want to chase away
All your bad dreams at night,
And be there to guide you
When you don't feel quite right.

To share in all your happiness
Is still a dream for me.
I hope you know I love you
    More than life, you see.

  7. 5. Three Famous Words

    • By Katelyn
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2007 with permission of the Author.

He almost lost his chance with her...but he apologized, she forgave, and they had a little dance. A romantic poem.

    in I'm Sorry Love Poems

It was the first time they met.
    They didn't have a clue,
The future that would await them,
    The feelings they never knew.

It was the guy's eyes she had seen.
They were brown and dark as night.
It was the girl's friendly smile,
And their love at first sight.

It was the first time they spoke,
And no, it was no myth,
That while she stared into his eyes,
He was the one she wanted to be with.

Even though he felt the same,
This girl, she did not know,
That he loved her with all his heart,
But his feelings he did not show.

    So after many hopeless days,
The girl no more believed in fate,
That was when the guy realized
That he had made a huge mistake.

He came back just in time
To steal that poor girl's heart away.
    She forgave and she forgot
All the nights she lied awake.

He told her that he was sorry,
And if he could have a second chance.
It was just a while after
That they had their first kiss and dance.

He always tells her that he is sorry,
And how much he really cares.
    She believes him and forgives,
Both their feelings they deeply share.

So every night he tells her
Before she turns out her light,
    Those three little famous words,
    I love you, and goodnight.

  8. 6. Forgive My Mistakes

    • By Anna Liz Williams
    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011 with permission of the Author.

I had made the mistake of lying to my Mother and Father again about the same thing I told them I wouldn't lie about. They didn't trust anything I said and it hurt me and I wanted them to forgive me. So this poem is about the pain I feel from hurting them and wanting their forgiveness.

    in Family Poems by Teens

    I know I've made mistakes
So why should I even try
For when you look at me
All you see is that I lie
I'm sorry for the things I said
For giving you false truth in your head
I know that I've caused pain
    that I drive you insane
Though you may not see what's inside of me
You should know it's deader than the Dead Sea
You may think that I don't care
For all I give is just a stare
    But what you don't know
Is that the love I have for you is what glows
So I promise to try hard and to be true to you
So that our happiness will not be through
All I ask is one thing to see
Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?
For there is one thing I know is true
    I do Love You

  9. 7. Now You Are Gone

    • By Quenette L. Hernandez
    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2006 with permission of the Author.

Words were spoken that weren't meant and now there is much damage that must be mended.

    in Forgiveness Poems about Love

    A heart is torn open,
    A love is broken,
    A life is empty,
    With few words spoken.

    The words are spoken,
    Are what I appear
Like the loss of your love,
    Is the blank I fear.

    Knowing you hate me
    Is a terrible fate.
    I thought there was hope,
    But it was too late.

    What is spoken is spoken,
And what is done is done.
    I spoke without thinking,
    And now you are gone.

I hope one day that I will
    Earn your heart back
Because I still truly love you
    And that is a fact.

  10. 8. Sorry

    • By Edward Iacona
    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2008 with permission of the Author.

The importance of being able to say I'm Sorry to the people you love.

    in Loving Poems about Family

The phrase "I'm Sorry" you may agree
Has turned into a social amenity
We say "I'm Sorry" more than Brenda Lee
Which was a hit song for her back in 1960.

You may not want to acknowledge the damage you've done,
The pain that you've brought to spouse, daughter or son.
But if you've done wrong you must see the light
To take a pro-active step to returning things right

There will remain feelings that you can't erase,
Lost time and memories that you can't replace.
Because of your actions, now nothing's the same.
Take a look in your mirror and know that there's blame.

Maybe those words are ones you won't do.
They may not exist in your new age point of view.
Or, don't want to hear the anger, it might make you blue.
It's easier to leave your loved ones hurt and askew.

Just saying I'm sorry is not all it takes,
No magical words to make gone the mistakes.
Begin the road back with those words from your heart.
They do not mark the end but maybe a start.

Your family's your bond like no other glue.
A great family we had, can we renew?
Deep in your heart you know what to do.
If I can say "I'm sorry," then I think you can too.

  11. 9. Trouble

    • By Tanya M. DeVeer
    • Published by Family Friend Poems August 2006 with permission of the Author.

A poem about getting through the hard times.

    in Poems about Life Struggles

Troubled times are here, as we knew they would come
Not because of the situation, just because life in general is not always fun
But we can overcome them, together we must
Because the love that we have shared was surely built with trust
Times are daring in any family it seems
Rocking the boat to fulfill our dreams
We can build the obstacles but must remember to knock them down
For if we don't there will surely be trouble by leaps and bounds
I think along the way somehow we forgot to knock down
The obstacles that are tearing at our hearts and apparent trouble that abounds
Let's take the time to clear the obstacles and go back to loving each other
We're here to listen to your choices, let's stop hurting one another
Right or wrong it's always God's call
We must remember, it is us who will ultimately take the fall
So in my heart I do not think it is worth it just to be right
Life is too short not to say we love you and we won't give up without a fight

  12. 10. Truly

    • By Jody Mark
    • Published by Family Friend Poems September 2008 with permission of the Author.

Wrote for my husband after having some conflict in our life.

    in Husband Poems

There are times I feel so lost and ashamed.
These feelings are my own fault, so I am solely to blame.

Certain actions in my life I am not proud of.
The looks from people who are close to me I know are not of love.

My actions of recent years are truly genuine
as I have promised over and over to be true and walk a straight line.

Wanting only to be trusted and loved once again.
Another betrayal I promise never again will I commit a sin.

Please believe in me forever and always for I am being true.
I want to get back to a normal life where this action doesn't cause anymore blues.

Remember, I will always be true to you!
