  1. Mothers Day At Mum’s

    • By Samuel Aragone
    • Published by Family Friend Poems May 12, 2024 with permission of the Author.

This poem looks back on childhood memories though the eyes of a mother and son as they reminisce about the passing of her husband and explores the perhaps great love of partners of the post war generation. Were they better people then or did they need each other more to survive. The reader is invited to answer this question for themselves but as we were not part of this generation we cannot answer definitively --- we can only guess. Happy mothers day to all the mothers who read this.

    in Mother's Day Poems

I smelt the smile of childhood
I had woken up and smiled
    It was my mother's cooking
And I was just a child

    • By Derek S. Weaver
    • Published by Family Friend Poems April 30, 2024 with permission of the Author.

When I was 11 years old I met my first love. We were in elementary school and I fell completely in love. She was the same age as I was. As you know, life brings you unexpected surprises. I honestly never thought I'd see her again. We're both 50 now and we recently became reunited after nearly 40 years. This is a poem written about us from childhood, the breakup and life in between until we meet again. This is for you Jennifer Callison. My true love since 1985❤️

I saw her standing across the hall
Carrying her book tote, leaning against the wall
Her beautiful eyes glanced my way
Dancing green emeralds took my breath away

I lost my mother a few years ago, and I miss her more and more each day, so I wrote a poem for her wishing her a happy Mother's Day in heaven.

    in Mother's Day Poems

    Mom,
Every day must be a celebration in your
    Newfound heavenly home,
But our Mother's Day is forever empty

I love to honor my mom in poetry. She passed in 2019 after battling small cell lung cancer. My mom was truly special. She was funny, loving, and so easy to talk to. She meant everything to me. This poem is for her.

    • By Tonya R. Zuber
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 3, 2024 with permission of the Author.

This poem is about how a mentor/father figure encouraged me through self-doubt to continue to write poetry that gave me a voice to believe in myself and to express who I really am to others.

  8. While Walking On The Beach

I am a Christian and mostly write spiritual poems. I love the beach and go a few times a year. It reconnects me with the Lord and grounds me.

    in Beach Poems

    You look out into the water;
The waves make the most beautiful sound.
A place you find peace and comfort,
Walking hand in hand and looking around.

  9. My Friend The Tree

    • By Virginia Bussey
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 3, 2024 with permission of the Author.

One sunny afternoon, many years ago, I was exploring the small forest behind our house. I felt an impulse to sit at the foot of a particular tree. I'm not even sure what species of tree it was, but the warmth and peace I felt has stayed with me for decades. Now that I am dabbling in poetry, I decided to write a sonnet to describe that experience.

    in Earth Poems

I sit beside my tall and leafy friend
My back against his rough but sturdy trunk
The forest peacefulness begins to wend
Into my heart and sweeps away my funk
