Last Christmas in 2022 I lost my husband of 21 1/2 years. We found out five weeks before he passed that he was sick. He had colon cancer, which he was already stage 4 and had spreaded to his liver. The worst day of my life when Christmas suppose to be for miracles and as I prayed for mine he was slipping away and I couldn't do nothing but watch. So my poem is about me seeing and being able to hear his voice one more time so I can hug him and tell him how much I love and miss him.

    in Husband Death Poems

I wish heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again.
I wish heaven had Skype so I could see your bright smile.
I wish heaven had visiting hours so I could be there each and every time.
I wasn't ready for you to go, God had other plans and called you home early.

Embrace of the Sea is a poem written at a point in my life when I was struggling with depression. This poem was written during my recovery period of dealing with depression and shows an internal view of what a portion of my life felt like during my struggle. With the aid of mental health professionals, family, and friends, I was able to overcome the dark feelings that had consumed me. Covered by the Embrace of the Sea is a poem that shows my vulnerability and gives hope to others.

    in Depression Poems

The sun shines down on the mirror above my head.
    I float alone beneath,
the rays of the sun unable to reach me.
    My arms spread,

I have been a junky for a large part of my life. I've been clean now for 79 days and this child and her brother are what saved me. Their love for me was stronger than my addiction. This poem is to honor these 2 Angels that set me free.

Falling in love with someone who is the complete opposite of you just might be better than you would have imagined.

    in Falling in Love Poems

Opposites attract and that's why we're the perfect match, right?
    One negative, and one positive.
Magnetic attraction, fulfilling each other's satisfaction.
    You negative and me positive.

This free verse poem is about the loving and giving spirit of Christmastide, and how the charity of St. Nicholas can live in all of us.

    in Christmas Poems

Stepping through the pine and holly wreathed front
    entrance of the homeless shelter,
as a Christmas Eve snowfall decorated the city,
    I carried a fresh turkey,

  8. The Lost: A Story

    • By David Ward
    • Published by Family Friend Poems November 20, 2023 with permission of the Author.

This poem is a story that was inspired during a dark period in my life in the year 2016. I wrote it over the course of an hour and revised it many times. It is a spiritual story about human explorers who venture out into the multi-dimensional nature of experience, the realms between life and death, and the vast struggles that are faced throughout the process we call existence. It is a story of sadness and duality, how far we go in trying to find peace, but where are we really looking to find it?

    in Poems about Spirituality

Wondering wonderlands of a timeless stay
Where the leaves fly and the winds sow
Seeds of the new, glows of the old
