Poems With Couplets - Page 2

  1. Why Play At Being Real?

    I was inspired to write this poem after being stood up for the 3rd time by a guy who had led me to believe he was completely into me. Phone conversations in the middle of the night that would last for hours, dates that were absolutely awesome on every level, unbelievable rapport and compatibility, physical attraction... just a lot in common... like twin flames. But then he started making dates but never showed or even called, sometimes until a week or two later. Then he just stopped... no closure.

    in Betrayal Poems

    He blew into my life like a sweet summer breeze,
    Stole my heart in an instant, made me weak in the knees...

    He seemed so sincere when he'd look in my eyes

  2. A Minor Bird

    Famous Poem

    When a person is in a depressed mood even the beautiful song of a bird is grating. Of course, after that moment of irritation, one realizes the problem is not with the bird but with you.

    in Famous Nature Poems

    I have wished a bird would fly away,
    And not sing by my house all day;

    Have clapped my hands at him from the door

  4. A Naughty Little Comet

    Famous Poem

    This classic, fun, and rhythmic poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919) is a cautionary tale about a mother-daughter struggle that will be familiar to many parents of teenagers. The lesson taught is the virtues of a cautious and modest approach to life. The bold and fun loving daughter doesn't listen to the scolding of her wise mother and instead runs wild, reveling in her youth and beauty. In the end the mother's fears come true.

    in Famous Funny Poems

    There was a little comet who lived near the Milky Way!
    She loved to wander out at night and jump about and play.

    The mother of the comet was a very good old star;

    Have you ever just looked at the person you're in love with and thought, "Wow, how on earth did I find this person? How did I get someone so amazing and so perfect?" Love makes you feel emotions you never thought you could feel before. Sometimes it makes your life, your whole world, surreal. It's an overpowering feeling, and it can be so hard to explain these emotions, thoughts, feelings you have towards them (that no one else has for them). I'm sure a lot of you can relate...

  7. Keeping The Promises

    • By Morgan Gregg
    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2013 with permission of the Author.

    I wrote this poem from the point of view of a someone who is speaking to their friend, and talking about how throughout their lives they have always managed to stay together. That their friendship was strong enough to make it through the good, the bad, and all the in-between moments they have gone through in their lives, and even though their lives are close to ending, they were, are, and will always be best friends.

    in Life Long Friend Poems

    Do you remember, when we were young, those promises we made?
    The promise to be there for each other, no matter night or day.

    The promise to keep secrets, no matter what they are.

    My grandfather recently died, and it just broke my heart. My family was military, so my visits with him weren't always very common; however, that never changed the way I felt about him. He was what made up my best childhood memories, and for that I am forever grateful!

    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011 with permission of the Author.

    I wrote this poem for my cousin, Debbie Taylor, who was also my teacher at the Christian School I go to. I miss her so much. It just doesn't seem real that she is gone. I prayed for God to help me with my poetry and this one just came pouring out of me. I just wish I had gotten more time with her. I wanted her to see me graduate, get married, have kids, and become a teacher like her. I just wanted one more everything with her. I guess that is why I titled this poem One More.

    This poem is written from a very personal view during my battle with depression. This talks about the fact that you have to hide your true feelings and the constant act that you put on to the people around you.

  15. Though All The Fates

    Famous Poem

    Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) was an American author, poet, abolitionist, and historian. Ralph Waldo Emerson was Thoreau’s neighbor, mentor, and friend. Both had Transcendental ideas, which was the American version of Romantic Idealism. Transcendentalists believed in focusing on the spiritual instead of material concerns. They believed society had tarnished the purity of an individual. Themes of Transcendentalism can be found in this poem. Though something seems firm and unwavering, you don’t see what is happening below the surface. Staying true to who we are will pay off in the end and keep you from destruction. This poem is made up of rhyming couplets.

    • By Madelyn F. Lanier
    • Published by Family Friend Poems October 25, 2022 with permission of the Author.

    This poem is about how girls are often taken for granted and corrected, regardless of how hard we try. This often stems into insecurity that sticks with us for the rest of our lives. Everything I mention in this poem is something most girls have thought about, some time or another. Everyone is perfect the way they are! Jesus loves you!
