Everyone says life is easy,
but truly living it is not.
Times get hard,
people struggle
and constantly get put on the spot.
I'm going to wear the biggest smile,
even though I want to cry.
I'm going to fight to live,
even though I'm destined to die.
And even though it's hard
and I may struggle through it all,
you may see me struggle...
but you will NEVER see me fall.

Some people view forgiveness
As a virtue for the weak.
An act of mercy undeserved,
That serves no useful need.

Some people view forgiveness
As a virtue for the weak.
An act of mercy undeserved,
That serves no useful need.

They stand firmly in their judgment
And won't consider a mistake.
They prefer to hold a senseless grudge
Than accept amends when made.

They feel they have some godly right
To reject and criticize.
They're possessed by righteous anger,
And consumed by pointless pride.

They're focused on how they've been wronged,
And won't be made the fool again.
So they feel they must avenge themselves
By refusing to give in.

They will sacrifice their family,
Or forsake a long-time friend.
Do anything they have to do
To be the winner in the end.

Or perhaps it's that they can't resolve
The depth of all their hurt,
Caused when someone they've trusted,
Left them questioning their worth.

But no matter why the struggle,
Out of pride or out of fear,
Not being able to forgive
Can cause the loss of ones most dear.

Yes, forgiveness is a virtue,
They even say it is divine.
But more than that it sets you free
From what weighs you down inside.

The best way to approach this life
Is to ask forgiveness and to forgive.
There's a balance to this crazy world,
So live and just let live.

Always hiding the way you feel.
Losing your sight on truthful words,
Forgetting what is real.

It's hard when you forget to laugh
And you're scared that someone might see.
Hoping no one saw your face,
As you struggle to remember how to breathe.

It's hard to pretend you're happy,
And you're terrified someone might ask.
It's becoming harder every day;
It's becoming quite a task.

You feel when your body shakes,
As it searches for something to hold.
Though the temperature feels hot,
Your heart and mind feel cold.

Your throat feels like it's closing,
And your legs feel like they're weak.
You try your hardest to grasp a breath,
But there's not even enough to speak.

Your hands remain unsteady,
And your heart pounds like a drum,
And even though you can barely walk,
You fight the urge to run.

You scream as the world starts spinning,
And your knees drop straight to the ground.
You realize in that moment

Our nature is to search
for answers to life's questions,

like "What is perfection?"

You strive to be "perfect,"

Surely happiness is of priority
over a word like "perfection,"

Wretched Monster, tell me what's real.

No matter what you do, you can't solve them.

I stare into your eyes; you stare back at me.
I hate you and love you; I want to be free.
You hold me captive, Wretched Monster, why?
I tear up, but you tell me not to cry.

Wretched Monster, you say I'm nothing.
You leave me in the dark, screaming and cussing.
You beat me down every day without fail,
But I just turn my pain into a tale.

Just turn it into art; that'll fix things.
Wretched Monster, I'm a puppet on strings.
I know you hate me, but I know you're always there.
I look into the mirror and I know that you care.

I want to escape you, but I know what that means.
I'll escape everyone else and leave everything.
I'll grab a blade and my life will be done.
Wretched Monster, that's tempting, but I'll always think of my one.

You ask me what I mean when I think of my one.
I mean my one reason to keep moving on.
I think of "this song;" I think of his pain.
"This song" is my one reason to keep being brave.

"This song" gave me life when you had none to give.
"This song" hugged me tight and told me to live.
Wretched Monster, I love you, but I can't quit.
I'm sorry I disappoint you, but your voice can't win.

I try to smile back even though you point and jeer.
I try not to hate when I see you in the mirror.
I know you're just trying to get through this life,
But I can't live with you when you give me a knife.

Yet I can't let you go, Wretched Monster, you're me.
I can't give you up and continue to breathe.
So let me be happy, and stay far behind.
Stay out of the mirror and out of my mind.

Pressure and stress have molded me,
And it's just too hard to be happy.
Can you not tell that I'm wearing a mask?
Can you not see I just wanted to be asked,
How are you truly?

You ask me how I am,
And I can't help but lie.
I say I'm fine,
But that's not true inside.
If you could see beyond my mask,
If you'd just take the time to ask,
If you'd only try to talk to me,
If you'd only get to know me,
Then you would see the hurting teen inside.
You would see why I cry,
You would understand why I feel alone and confused,
And trust me, your help I will not refuse.

I can't decide what's wrong or right.
While this beating heart falls out of sight,

Letting my pain destroy my might,
But I keep my head up right,
With my tongue and lips locked tight,
So I can push my happiness to the side,
To leave myself empty to die.

Mirrors show monsters I don't recognize,
But it's behind these beasts that I hide,
With a fist full or cyanide
And a heart full of pain.
I have my shotty in the bathroom like Kurt Cobain.
I can't help but wither away and go insane,
But it's this pain keeping me sane,
So I'm free to count the rain.
