  1. I Love You

    Famous Poem

    Ella Wheeler was born in 1850 on a farm in Wisconsin, the youngest of four children. She wrote numerous poems starting when she was 7 years old. During her life, Wilcox received many rejection letters before a publisher gave her books of poetry a chance. Despite these rejections, Wilcox remained very optimistic. Her best-known poetry book was Poems of Passion (1883). In her later years she went to France during World War 1 to lecture to the soldiers, and assist with the Red Cross.

    in Famous Love Poems

    I love your lips when they’re wet with wine
    And red with a wild desire;
    I love your eyes when the lovelight lies
    Lit with a passionate fire.

  2. My One, My Only, My Everything

    • By D Lancaster
    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2015 with permission of the Author.

    This is a story of young, unrequited love that finds its way. I loved her from the 1st day. Sadly, the love was not returned. We stayed friends for years, but lost contact. When we found each other again, her feelings mirrored mine, as I always wished they would. We are now happily in love, and have been for a number of years.

    in True Love Poems

    For so long, I wished for the day.
    The day that our love would find its way.
    From my heart and into your soul,
    The feeling so strong, I had no control.

    This poem is for husbands, filled with good advice on how to treat your wife.

    One you should treasure, but not as a possession,
    Who needs to be loved, not treated with aggression.
    Her value is more than all the world's treasures,

    I have a girlfriend I have been waiting for, and she is the best there is. I fell in love with her from the very first time I laid eyes on her. I would never hurt her in any way. She completes me. I hope those who read my poem learn that love doesn't cost a penny. It's all about trust and faith. This poem is for my one and only Myra.

  7. Love? No. Fate? I Think So

    • By Tammy Luu
    • Published by Family Friend Poems November 2011 with permission of the Author.

    Some may think it's just a poem by a teenager in lust. Yes, it's corny and exaggerated. However, it's not an excuse to talk about a crush. I've only met him once. For me, this poem means something because I wrote it in the midst of my confusion about my strong feelings. I barely know the guy, yet, and this is cliché, I can't get him out of my mind. I'm usually very casual with guys, but I had to try really hard to act normal.

    in Teen Crush Poems

    I knew the day we met
    That we were meant to be.
    I knew our fate was set,
    That you were the one for me.

  15. Love's Coming

    Famous Poem

    Ella Wheeler Wilcox was an American author and poet who lived from 1850-1919. Her goal was to write pieces that lifted people’s spirits. In this poem, she writes of the great expectation of falling in love--that it will be an earth shattering moment, but the girl she writes about finds that she has fallen in love with someone who has always been by her side and is considered a close friend. That love has stood the test of time. This poem is made up of quatrains, four-line stanzas, that have a rhyme scheme of ABCB. The structure is also very intentional. The first two lines of each stanza show what the speaker hopes for when it comes to love, and the second two lines of each stanza reveal her reality.

    in Famous Love Poems

    She had looked for his coming as warriors come,
    With the clash of arms and the bugle's call;
    But he came instead with a stealthy tread,
    Which she did not hear at all.

  16. Colours Of Romance

    • By Randy Batiquin
    • Published by Family Friend Poems September 2018 with permission of the Author.

    This poem was written several years ago for a beautiful someone I had a crush on. I remember I was head-over-heels in love with her, or at least that was what I was thinking. I was so inspired and wanted to play with words to express what I felt. Her name's CHRISNA. And because I intended to publish this poem in our school newsletter, and also didn't want to be so obvious, I hid a code in the poem and hope maybe somehow she'll notice. The first letter of each stanza spells her name.

    in Falling in Love Poems

    little buds caressed by dew
    sending pretty thoughts of you.

  17. Every Day My Love For You Grows

    I met a guy this year. First I thought he would just be another one of my guy friends. Then I started talking to him more and we started hanging out a lot, and somewhere in between all of that I started to fall for him.

    in Falling in Love Poems

    Analysis of Form and Technique

    all I could think of is this one guy.
    I never thought I'd feel this way,

  18. My Mistress' Eyes Are Nothing Like The Sun

    Famous Poem

    Poem about an ordinary relationship between lovers that is extraordinary. This poem is written in the form of a sonnet, which is a 14 line rhyming poem that has its origins in Italy. This poem makes fun of passionate love poetry in which the poet imagines that their lover is more spectacular than anything in the universe. Instead, the poet maintains that his relationship with his lover is as unique and magnificent as any other although his lover is an ordinary woman.

    in Famous Love Poems

    My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
    Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
    If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
    If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
