  1. My Wish For This Christmas

Christmas is supposed to be a happy time, but when you lose someone (or in my case, more than one), Christmas just doesn't feel the same. The grief you feel especially around Christmas can suck the joy right out of you. This poem is for people who may be feeling this way, and I just wanted to send a little Christmas wish to all of you. May you find peace and joy again around Christmas time.

    in Christmas Poems

Christmas is a happy time for friends and family,
The children are excited as they unwrap presents around the tree.

Carols are sung and lights twinkle in the night.

  2. Special Day

    • By Marie Matheny
    • Published by Family Friend Poems January 2019 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem 35 years ago to my best friend. Who would've guessed that we would still be as close today as back then? We don't see each other often these days, but when we do, it is as if we just spoke to one another the day before. It may take a few hours to play catch-up, but this friendship has lasted because we still care about each other and what happens in each other's lives. There is a trust and a bond that will forever keep us connected, and I know that she feels the same.

As a young sailor I met this young woman in New York city. Many years have passed and yet I still can still hear her sighs and taste her lips. Always I will ponder her fate.

  7. Falling Deeper

    • By Doug W Benson
    • Published by Family Friend Poems January 4, 2024 with permission of the Author.

There's no recipe for love. And the concept of this poem is not by any means meant to come across presumptuous. I simply feel these suggestions, multiple moments and, dare I say some requirements, have proven to be essential at achieving a deeper and more meaningful love in my life. Not just the numerical "what" but the "how" and "why" behind each theme are, for me, what have built the foundation for the relationship with my sweet companion. The most important thing in the world to me!!

  8. Cool Summer

Summer is the hottest season, and some people dread having summer around, but if we all see summer in a different way, then we can find so many interesting things to do. Most of my good memories are in summer, and that's what makes the season so special for me.

  9. True Friend

    • By David J. Herring
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 1, 2023 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem for my friend of many years, also called David. Like myself, David and my wife Gillian enjoyed writing poetry, and we would read our work to one another, and the three of us enjoy conversation around poetry and our experiences of life's joys and troubles. David loved this poem I wrote about true friendship, maybe an ideal, but one to aspire to. Both friend David and my wife Gillian have now passed on, but I hope to see them again, in Heaven's Home!

Of light, and warmth, and cheer,
That heals with hope along life's way,
    Dispelling every fear.

  10. The Pink Summer Sphere

    • By Suh Joon Kim
    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2016 with permission of the Author.

Every summer, my family and I would travel back to Korea and buy the peaches in the wet market...the juiciest, ripest, and the biggest peach that would make your mouth drip saliva. In the sweltering hot summer, taking those peaches out from the freezer and putting them in your mouth gives a sensation that makes your mouth burst in sweetness. Peaches are a summer fruit that should not go unnoticed.

  12. Candy Tree Shops

    • By Beryl L Edmonds
    • Published by Family Friend Poems August 2019 with permission of the Author.

As I enjoy reading and writing limericks, it was a delight to see that limericks are one of the four poetry forms in the 2019 Summer Poetry Contest. Children love poetry with some humour and a rhythmic beat. I hope to have gotten that right in these limericks I've written for children to read and hopefully enjoy. Five Limericks, each having a line syllable count of 10,10, 5, 5, 9.
