I wrote this poem because I've been thinking of my boyfriend nonstop, and we promised each other we would never leave, that we would be together forever. We're almost together for eight months now and I haven't seen him in two weeks, so I wrote him this poem to make him smile. I just wanted to let him know I love him.

I know how it feels to be lost at sea, to feel unloved, unwanted, and drowning in misery. There's no one to blame; it was my own anxiety and despair until I realised there was help out there. That help came from the Lord, my shepherd. I'm completely certain I heard Him speak to me, and suddenly everything fell into place.

The sheep were delighted, freedom at last
Followed the leader and ran away fast.

All was hunky dory; they had a ball,
Walking for miles over fields, hills, moors.
Then came the sunset and the night grew dim.
They began to feel that freedom was grim.

They grew hungry and went in search of food -
Couldn't find forage and became subdued.
It was hard to lie down and get their sleep,
As they were pursued by some ghastly beasts.

So tired and weary they wished to be
Back in the flock and the hand of safety.
They realised they needed their shepherd's care,
For love, food and shelter that's always there.

When the sheep had almost lost every hope,
A familiar face came over the slopes.
It was their shepherd and all ran with glee
To show they were glad to see him, truly.

They vowed they'd never run away again
And prayed in thanks for the shepherd God sent.

He Is There

One Sunday at Mass, Father John Carney at St. Mary's Church in Panama, (Rep. of Panama) gave his usual sermon. But something in what he said hit me so powerfully that I came home and wrote this poem that I now share with you. I hope you will perceive God as I did on that Sunday through the words of an inspirational priest.

God comes to us in quiet and simple ways.
He is there when the breeze rustles the palm fronds on a quiet, lazy, sunny afternoon.
When the raindrops softly patter on the thirsty tin roofs of the poor, he is there.

God comes to us in quiet and simple ways.

Look for him behind the laughing eyes of a child,
or smell him in blossoming jasmine flowers
on a clear and starry moonlit night.
Hold his hand when you take your love by the hand,
and feel the warmth of his tears
as you console a grieving friend in your arms.

He is there in a baby's first cry
and in the dying man's last sigh.
When the waves break on the golden sands
and the seagulls fly into the white clouds,
when the church bells ring on an Easter Sunday
inviting you to receive the sacred brad, he is there.

Taste him when you bite into the yellow ripeness of a mango
or when you quench your thirst with sweet water of a coconut.
God comes to us only in quiet and simple ways.
Never his presence in violence will you find;
never look for him in words of anger or cowardly actions.

His love and his peace surround us, above and beyond.
And only in those simple, everyday things
when we look with our eyes filled with his love
can we find him.

A prayer was held in our nation,
Beauty was seen in more ways than one,
Children who are lost could find their salvation,

Death was slain and torture was done.

Earth was awakened after years of endurance,
Forgotten feelings were rekindled anew,
God was man's only path and assurance,
Hope was the foundation of the world we knew.

I knew more stories than those that were told,
Joy was a plague, and peace a disease,
Knowledge was worth more than silver and gold,
Love was sacred and endless as the seas.

I've had my share of troubles in life, though not as much as some have had. But I've discovered that happiness - or a lack of it - never really comes from my friends or foes. Although they do influence it, it's really up to me.

Dedicated to my best friend, Joyce. Sometimes your soulmate is just your best friend.

Dare to take a look at this peaceful spring day. The poem uses the 5 senses to describe nature. Using the 5 senses in writing creates a clearer picture and makes the readers feel a part of the setting.

I wrote this when I woke up really early one morning and felt like the whole world was turned against me.

From a girl to her mother, a lovely tribute to a lovely mother. To my mother who raised me and was there when I needed her. I love you!
